That's VERY nice! We should update the FAQ then... Excellent work!
Let's let our users verify it's working 100%, I think this one deserves a sticky for a while.

I'm impressed .. and also hoping they will 1. add extraction capability and 2. find a way to flash dead drives .. until then it is still best to back up in DOS with mtkflash first

It can't see my Sonmy CRX220E1, which has the LTR-52246S firmware, and the LiteOn ID tag. Is this a known bug/problem?

I'm sorry it doesn't work for everybody. Like any program it's not 100% water tight. It might be conflicting with something in your system. No way to tell.

It does work for the great majority though. Mtkwinflash has been downloaded more than 1000 times to date, and the number of reported issues is tiny. It doesn't stop us to try get rid of any eventual bug.

Cheers

I used it on my 52246S. It worked quite well. I did however have to restart it 3 times (under XP)

First time: Showed no drives
Second time: Showed only JLMS 165H
Third: Showed no drives
Fourth: Showed only 52246S

As I just posted in the firmware section in this thread there's some great news:
MtkWinFlash has a new Direct IDE Port Flash Mode which enables to flash unrecognizable or dead drives!

This is a part of a soon to be published new version, but you can already have the fully functional new module now.

Read about it in the above mentioned thread or just visit my MtkWinFlash page

have fun

Please guys, make an effort to describe what's happening in some detail. Are you using the latest version? Which mode?, what stage of the process? Details of your OS, drives and the rest of the system would be handy too.

Have you seen this thread at all :

Yes, Mango the latest version. I have a 48125W Drive and am running Win2k SP3 on an Elite K7S5A mobo.

The program opens fine, but when I click on either Mode button everything freezes. This happened twice in a row.

Hope this helps, its not meant to be a criticsm that it doesnt work for me, just testing it.

Complete nightmare hehe.

1st i went and flashed my LTD 163 D DVDROM useing IDE 2 becuse it ws on 2ndery Master.

it completely crashed my system when in the middle of the updateing prossess

i have spent the past 2 hours fixing it 1st i couldnt get it working becuse it was a dead drive i had to place my hdd on another ide chain becuse the chain it was on with the hdd made the hdd stop working.

then when i got into windows i reflashed with ide 1 with the program

becuse i had to place the drive on primery master and my hdd on 2ndery master to get the hdd working.

it flashed the drive and it seems to be working now.
i just finished up changeing everything back and all is good .

but i think this is a hit and miss program. it will eather flash teh drive or kill it.
i still beleave DOS is the best way to go.

also it will not detect my LTR 52246s drive in Standard ATAPI mode it only seems to detect my LTD 163 D DVDROM drive.

there are still some problems in my eye that needs fixed.
but if your willing to take the chance this carefully becuse you dont want a permenently dead drive.. i will be thinking twice about useing it again in extreame situations hehe

It is still best to unplug any other drives that you aren't flashing...
