C0deKing,
I tried the Nero CD/DVD Speed Create Disc program and it wouldn't allow me to 2.4x write speed nor did it ever give me the option, it only would give me the 4x and 8x option and this was for all the media I had, even the media marked with 2.4x. I'm going to try to return this drive for another of the same model or I may try to find something with a low max rate. Is the write strategy able to be modified or am I out of luck?

Well I just got a new Lite On iHES208 drive to beable to do BD scans for quality and because of all the neat tools that you (et al) have made for Lite on drives.
I tried to read the stock firmware that came with the drive (8L05)(flash ID: EF 15 00 26 flash size: 2MB flash type: winbond(W25x16/16a)) with your flash utility (ver. 3.0.3) and it progresses as far as the first blue square and then it says not responding on the title bar of the utility.
Is this drive not supported? I clicked on the firmware and I suppose it read the size to be 2mb so I am at a loss as to why it will not read the fw...I am using vista ultimate 32 bit, and I have the drive in an external enclosure connected by esata to a sata controller card. The drive functions seemingly fine, so I hope you may have an answer to my quandry...
BTW - you have done a great job with all the tools you have produced - I know you get this allot, but it's true and all freeware - Mahalo and via con dios my friend in cyberspace and you have a place in optical drive heaven I am sure...

Hi SLOVEHEART and thanks for the kind words.
Can't find a problem here with the drive on eSATA, same flash chip and v3.03, using XP SP3.
Possibly Vista or the controller card.

the eprom reading tool works, I tried running the flash utility in xp(sp2) mode - still no luck, I will try running it thru a esata connection that runs straight to the onboard sata connectord on the mobo and see if it's the controller card. shootQuote:Hi SLOVEHEART and thanks for the kind words.

I isolated the problem to two possibilities. I put the drive connected to the internal Sata connections and was able to read the fw from the drive just fine, that leaves the sata controller, which is now a IOGear 4 port eSATA raid5 PCI card, before I was hooked up through a Rosewill RC-220 2 port eSATA 1.5GB PCI card. Or it is the JMicron controller chip in the external drive enclosure, or both that keeps the flash tool from working, just a FYI. So before I installed the replacement drive (the original iHES208 started to read errors off the chart, while a iHAP424 was showing normal error values) (thankfully Newegg let me return for replacement 3 days after the period ran out), I read the fw off the drive, no problems, tried it again when I had it hooked up externally, since the controller board has changed, still no luck...__________________

Hi osoronoso. Flashing can be done without disabling DMA. For the best safety, don't enable "Update boot code". __________________

Does not recognize my Lite-On DH20A1SQuote:Released Flash Utility v3.0.2
Version: v3.0.2 (19 August 2008)
New flash engine with more drives supported
Displays Flash type
"Update boot code" is now disabled by default (only enable for crossflashing)
See the first post for the download link
Enjoy!

I wonder why Everest identifies the drive manufacturer as Philips / BenQ? My purchase receipt says it's a LiteOn drive

LtnFW does recognize the drive but crashes during use
My OS is Win 7 but the same results happen using Vista (dual boot machine) -

I have removed the drive for closer inspection.
The label says:
Manufacturer: Philips and BenQ Digital Storage Corporation
Model Number (2): DH-20A1S & DH-20A1S 18C
Confusing, is Lite-On part of Philips / BenQ ?????? -

Update: Problem fixed.
I updated my motherboards Intel Matrix Store Drivers and Flash_Utility 3.0.3 recognized my DH20A1S at once.
I then flashed with 20A1S.9L08.stock.exe firmware. I then had a Lite-on DVDRW LH-20A1S (9L08 version) I the flashed again with the latest Lite-On LH-20A1S firmware (9L09) which worked fine. -

I have bought a little identical DVD drives liteon iHAS124 Y SATA - I ask not to confuse with iHAS124 A !!!. I have tried to update one of them. As a result at updating he has written error and blinks the green indicator. Also I have tried to use your utilities Flash v.3.0.3 and EEProm v.5.0.1 - but the given utilities don't see my new serviceable drives DVD.
Flash v.3.0.3 and EEProm v.5.0.1 display in the list serviceable and faulty DVD in format:
1. "S:ATAPI iHAS124 Y 0L0Z Jan06,2009" - faulty
2. "Z:ATAPI iHAS124 Y BL0W Jan07,2009" - work
But field Flash ID: Unknown, Flash type: Unknown, Flash size: Unknown, Status: 8002
Buttons Read Flash and Write Flash are inactive
Please help me to restore faulty drive. It is ready to give the additional information under your requirement.
Thanks.

Do you still have those files saved anywhere??Quote:Hi Code King.
Your tools are very nice.
I have a HP DVD writer 1040d and want to flash to LH-20A1H.
I use Flash Utility v2.2.2 to read the firmware (saved it as EH25.BIN with 2MB size) and EEPROM Utility v3.8.3 to read the content of EEPROM (saved it as EEPRPM1040.bin with 8KB size).
Before flash the “20A1H.LL0C.stock.exe” I would like to know in the case I want to flash back to 1040d can I simply use Flash Utility to write back EH25.BIN? or how is the procedure to do this?
Highly appreciate your reply.
Thanks

Norton Anti-Virus 2010 doesn't like Flash_Utility 4.0.0 on my computers; when I run it, Norton SONAR flags it as performing "suspicious activities" and the executable is deleted.
3.0.2 and 3.0.3 don't have the same problem.
Windows XP SP3 on two different computers (laptop + desktop).__________________

That's interesting. I wonder what suspicious activities they think it's doing.
No issues here with Avast, yet.
Can I send you another version, later today, to try?__________________

Sure.
Also note that NAV 2010 SONAR also flags almost every version of EEPROM_Utility (except 4.1.0) as performing suspicious activities.
I suspect the people at Symantec have been smoking something they shouldn't have...__________________

The latest version of Avast currently shows no threat found. Might have been reported by someone that doesn't like the lastest feature... __________________

SONAR is a heuristic technology - there's no signature in NAV2010 that detects your tools; it's only when the tools are actually run that the SONAR system gets angry. __________________

After having reported this as a "false positive" to Symantec, I received the following reply today:
I have no reply for the EEPROM_Utility yet.Quote:We are writing in relation to your submission through Symantec's on-line False Positive Submission form in relation to the Flash_Utility software being detected by Symantec Software. In light of further investigation and analysis, Symantec is happy to remove this detection from within its products.
The changes will be distributed in forthcoming updates to our definition sets. The availability and timing will depend upon the product version used.

I'll post an update in this thread when I know if this really fixes the problem.__________________
