@ C0deKing

Would it be possible to add in a future version DH-16A3L <-> DH-20A3L crossflash support pretty please ...

I've managed to grab a cheap HP branded DH-16A3L drive but at the moment I can't crossflash it since the EEPROM checksum won't match the DH-20A3L one and as a result the unit will start blinking ...

Worse even, I can't even flash it with the latest DH-16A3L LiteON official firmware since I can't find an unscrambled *.bin file anywhere and FlashFix doesn't seem to completely unlock the official LiteON flasher either ...

Meanwhile it would be great if someone could dump their DH-16A3L 8P5x firmware and post it in the firmware thread please.

Thank you!

overspeed is working correctly on the iHAS 324 on a 16x MID that I tried to overspeed earlier. I will try TYG02 also.

Many, many, many thanks CK for the s*u*p*e*r*f*a*s*t release.
The crossflash worked perfectly! I flashed your 20A3L EV6D fw without any problems whatsoever!

Your welcome. It should be a much better drive with EV6D.

Hello,

I was trying to crossflash my 16A3L (in HP PC) to 20A3L using newest EEPROM utility and CK's fw EV6D, but I ended with flashing LED on my drive. I tried to repair checksum, but it said "There's no problem with the EEPROM'schecksum. I was able revert back to HP fw 8H1F and drive is working properly again. But I'd like to crossflash it to working 20A3L. Any ideas, please ?

Hi mates333. Use the EEPROM Utility "Upgrade Drive" feature and follow the instructions given on the dialog screen.

Hi C0deKing. Great !!! It works !!! I used method 2 from dialog screen with PC shutdown (that was the key point) and turning on after aprox. 30 secs - LED is not flashing anymore and drive is working properly.

Thanks again

Hey ... tried your EEPROM 4.1.2 on my Sony 700A / LiteOn 832S. Having trouble with DL media (tired Sony-RITEKand Verbatim both) and they kinda worked but not quite.

First I backed it up. Then I did the Reset Learnt Media thing. Rebooted. The drive no longer sees anything. So I tried the Restore... still nuthin.

Otherwise the drive seems fine. Did a new flash. Everything checks out but it no longer will read or write or recognize any media.

Just thought I would give folks a heads up that you can destroy your drive with the Reset Learnt Media function.

Hi headchip and welcome to cdfreaks.

I think we would have seen a few more posts like yours, by now, if it was a common occurrence.

Is your drive light flashing continuously?

No ... its all good. Various software all recognizes the drive. When I put in media it tries to detect it but doesn't think anything is in there.

I used the Flash Utility 3.0.3 to read the flash and then did a file comp. with the binary and they match. It just seems to have lost any calibration on reading any media. I've tried CDs, DVDs, Blanks of all flavors. Nuttin.

Restoring the backup would restore all of the changes made by the EEPROM Utility, so it's nothing to do with loosing calibration data.

Send me your backup EEPROM and one read from the drive now, and I will have a look for you. You'll find my email addy on the contact page of my site.

As you noted, the EEPROM files are the same, so no problem there.

Can't think what has gone wrong to cause both CD and DVD to not be recognized. Normally it would be one or the other. Perhaps the DL media not burning correctly, was a sign of the drive failing.

Can you try the drive in another system?

Don't know what happened... uh, an hour earlier I used the drive to burn a single layer it worked OK. I also put the drive in PIO mode each time before flashing etc. It was a death that happened right after clearing the "learnt" media for whatever reason.

In any case I ordered a new LG drive for $34 which cost less than the Verbatim media I purchased to satisfy the old drive. I will try the drive on another connection when the new drive comes in and will let you know if it starts working again. Just don't want to spend too much more time on it considering the low price of a replacement.

I learned some things in the process also... like the premium price paid for the Sony name was a waste for both the drive and media since Sony makes neither.

New version released:
EEPROM Utility v5.0.0

Version: v5.0.0 (27 July 2009)
* Supports Blu-ray drives
* New Convert Drive function
* New Clear Media Learn function
* Removed some legacy functions

New Convert Drive function
This exciting new crossflash feature reads the firmware to find out which model the drive is and changes the EEPROM to match the model it finds. The drive must first be flashed to the new firmware, which must be compatible with the drives hardware (chipset), and then this function used. The drive will become fully functional after a system power off, or if external, the external enclosure switched off.

New Clear Media Learn function
This new version of the reset learnt media function, uses safe drive commands to clear both the learnt media and the hypertuning. The new clear media learn function may not work with some legacy drives (reports that it has failed and makes no changes), so if you still use an old drive, make sure you keep a copy of your previous version of the EEPROM Utitity, just in case.

Please note: When the convert drive function is used on an SATA drive, the system/drive must be powered off to complete the conversion.

Edited my above post and the first post.

Is the 5.0.0 version of EEPROM Utility able to upgrade 401S drives to 811S (perhaps with the "Convert Drive function")?
