@Mirko66: The last time this was discussed someone found that this is possible several thousands of times.

@CodeGuys:
requests:
- make the message boxes modal (so that they can't dissappear in back of the window)
- alter filetype in save/store dialogs from "Text files" to sometin' more expressive

So, should one post test results in this thread, or in a separate thread?

After my nero just crashed and doesn't wanna copy anymore after a bad bad bad burn on my 832S I tried to reset eeprom this is what happened on my sony04d1 discs at 08d1 strat at 8X. The 4X part is perfect perfect.

And the 8x part has a too high PO level. Give your drive a chance to learn and burn the next DVD. Do not forget to save the eeprom before and after the next burn to see the difference in the eeprom.

Well, yes it does but it's about 100,000 to 1,000,000 writes, so I think we're pretty safe. The drive writes to the EEPROM after every burn and in the case of a 3S drive, every time a disc is loaded.

I just found out something, my drive never had good burns before without the earlier shift and force fallback, now I guess when I reset it will give me different results, I will reset the eeprom and reflash it with a tweaked cg3b f/w without earlier shift and force fallback, let's see what that gives me . Nice tool, very nice indeed.

if discussion about eeprom modding is prohibited so much in here, how can this thread be posted when its not only about an eeprom backup utility but an eeprom modding utility?

what is the difference between ltnflash and this utility?

why is the use of ltnflash discouraged by some in here if it does the same as this new utility with out the option of modding it?

many warnings have been posted about ltnflash and handling the eeprom, so what makes this thread or the utility any different?

Its definetely nice to have another utility to back-up your eeprom and I applaud the efforts and work of the makers of the utility, but I would definetely like some answers to the questions above.
good work and I am sure I will enjoy using the backup feature in the future.

The difference is that we are not encouraging people to play with there eeprom. We are in fact encouraging people to backup their eeprom and hopefully fixing an issue that has been created by strategy swapping and cross flashing.

CodeGuys eeprom utility is offically release by us, where as Liteon's never was, so cdfreaks did not want to be seen to be providing links to it. Also our utility is very simple to use compared to the two step procedures of LtnFlash.

Pretty much the same question answered above.

Also answered above.

Then I am very surprised you raise the topics above.

Hey guys, I got a question. I got a 100 pack RIDATA (Ricoh01) from newegg and my 451@832 VS0B loves these things. After about 75 burns it seems to have perfected the strat on them. If I were to switch to CMC MAG E01 discs, would the drive *forget* about the Ricoh strat and work on that strat? I know that it only keeps 4 burns in memory. If so, would the Eeprom tool restore my current status on my burner?
Thanks to all..

The drive will start working on the E01 but in the case of the R01 it's calibration is retained in a unique location, so when you return to R01 it should carry on as it was. E01 calibration data is also stored in a unique location.

Plus you can always take a snapshot of your eeprom by doing a backup (like now) and then restoring it whenever you want.

General EEPROM related discussion has not been discouraged for a long time now. The only thing that we don't allow is for people to post requesting EEPROM dumps from others.

Sorry I missed your post with all of the 1653S stuff going on.

Please post any results here.

Note: There is no reason to clear the learn data unless the drive has become confused due to strategy switching, a very bad burn, or in the case of 3S firmware, cross flashing. It's not a magic improve burn patch to the eeprom, like CGxB is to firmware.

So you should only us the reset learn if the drive is not producing the results you would expect or you have a new batch of media or you have been using a strategy with one type of media and you now want to use another type. e.g. You were using RITEKR03 with the T02 strategy and now you want to use real T02 or visa versa. Think of it this way. It's like loading your day one backup of your eeprom (if you had one) back into the drive.

Resetting the learn media calibration data may set you back 2 to 4 consecutive burns, of the same media, before you get the same results again, if your media was already optimized by the drives learnt media calibration data. So I'm not encouraging people to rush out and reset there learn data. If it an't broke don't fix it...

I think it really works for me.
The best result is burnt after resetting learnt media.

Not a bad burn? Just reset learnt media and my 812 delivered much better results

Hmm, Errors:14 does not sound good, thats why you get the green line. Did the drive still use 4x speed behind the error position ? Maybe you should check the disk for scratches and scan again.

i dont understand what error 14 is. is that bad? i look at the disk and see no scratches but a ring which has different color from the surface's? is it the cause of the green line? i rescanned the disk and the result shows no error but more PI errors? Its bit strange?

To Codeguys
Is is normal if we see some rings on the surface? i guess where the speed increases from 4x->6X and from 6x->8x? How can we get rid of those rings? It seems that PI errors get higher at these rings by looking at the scan? Thanks.

Just make it clear that the scan in the middle is burnt after resetting learnt media compare to the top and bottom which are bad.

Hi there,

@thai_vn
Wide rings reflect burning at a [real] different speed in that part of the disc. If you select 8x burning speed don't expect the whole disc will be really burned at that unique speed. There is a 'profile', depending basically on the specific model of your burner and, in some cases, on the mediacode-related strategy [in that burner-model].

Just 2 examples selecting @8x, LDW-811s always burns @4x upto 4-5% of the disc; then @6x upto 32% (aprox); then @8x the rest (2/3 of the disc). So you will easily note the 'ring' between 4% and 32% zone. It does not necessarily mean worse burn (though, in the case of Ricoh01@Ricoh01 in 811s it really means a worse burn ). NEC ND3500 (with Ricoh01, at least) is different @8x: aprox @4x upto 20%; then @6x upto 50%; then @8x, if I dont remember badly.

@C0deking
Congratulations !! You have got a multi-model EEPROM reset utility; that really mena a big effort and you know all of us really appreciate it

Questions....
What can you say about the limited space in the EEPROM for mediacode learning? I mean: if there are less positions than mediacodes, it would mean, for example, that some mediacodes "do not learn" or that appearantly different mediacode strategies are really the same an reflect their learning in the very same EEPROM position ... What can you say, at this moment (of 'knowledge state', 'public convenience state') ?

I imagine the answer could find differences among different Liteon models, but sure there are aspects in common.

Best regards !!

At what speed did you burn each disc ? ...All of them @8x ?
