EEPROM & flash utility don't work!

Is it because I'm using it in an external enclosure? I also want to update the firmware from KL02 to KL05, will I be able to do it in the external enclosure? I downloaded the KL05 f/w from the Lite-on

Is KL02 better than KL05? I was reading a post where some people were switching back to KL02.....
