My second small HD is on the same IDE controller (secondary) as my cd-rw drive. My rw drive is set to master.

Move your second HDD to Primary ide channel to slave. See if it helps.

Then my dvd-rom and my cd-rw drive will be on the same ide channel. Is this ok? Heres my current setup:

Primary Master - Primary HD
Primary Slave - DVD-ROM
Secondary Master - CD-RW
Secondary Slave - Second HD (slow and small).

It's ok to have dvd and cd-rw on the same ide channel if you don't copy on the fly.
