Christmas gift - new firmwares for LDW-811S and LDW-411S.

In other words: many new media codes.

Comment 1: Scanning in K-Probe seems to not work good with these firmwares as it gives sky-high amount of errors on almoist all discs.

Comment 2: Writing quality of ricohjpnr01 discs seems better to my findings.

great news!!!

With the previous version we were able to burn DVD-r.

But not all media is readable in all DVD-players.

I hope that problem belongs to the past!

I am gonna try it and report my experience.

Happy X-mas to all of you!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS !!

I try it and my Laser brand DVD-R 4x which usually burn at 1x, now burn at 2x. It's still much better.

But I was amaze when I burn RICOH 4x DVD+RW. It was started at 2x and it goes to 12x at the end !!! The average speed was about 6x !!!

I don't know whether this firmware is officially released by liteon, but if not, BIG THANKS for the person who wrote this firmware.

Regards,

no average 6x

I can't confirm the avarage 6x with a 4 x DVD+RW.
It burns at 3.9 x speed.

Every media is different. Try the one that comes up with the retail bundle. I bought Ricoh 4x DVD+RW and test it. The one that comes up with the bundle here (Australia) is Ricoh as well and they're both giving the same result.

There is no brand on it.

I am living in the Netherlands.

Anyone the same 6x average experience?

Actually, I was hoping that someone would try it and tell me. The Windows Flasher should let you flash a DRW-1S81...

No, they're not technically official yet since they're not posted on liteonit.com yet.

Enjoy! Keep on testing guys!

I flashed my 811S with the new firmware in the hope that it would allow me to use some Memorex discs I had bought. They are DVD-R 4x (CMC MAG AF1). Nero 6.3.0.0 still will not burn these...it just locks up on caching files. I can burn all other discs I have including 4x DVD+R's and even some 2.4x -R's, just not these Memorex ones. I've also tried burning with Burnatonce with prodvd support along with the required key. And I know the first keys were bad but the author sent me a working one shortly thereafter.

Anyone else use these discs or other 4x -R's and experience similar problems?

Yep I've got the same problem with Nero 6.3 and -R disc's it just locks up when it starts caching files.

No problems with +R or +RW's, so unless you and I have identical pc's (v.unlikely) I'm thinking it must be a Nero problem.

Easily some of the worst DVD-R media available today. Will not burn well here on either 411S or Pioneer 106D, although with FS0G, the 411S does better with them.

No such problem here with CMC, TY, Ritek, MCC or Maxell.

Fsog has been the worst firmware update for my 411s. Now i know that media code longten 001 are not top notch disks, but in firmware revision fsof they were burning really well. They now will not complete the finalizing process. They just keep on burning and won't stop burning. So i reboot my computer to stop the burning process and i pop out the disk. I flip it over and look at the lead in and it is about 5 times the normal size. Im going to run more test and try burning some more with different media also, but so far this revision is garbage.

Normally I'm a updater but I'll skip this one. I love my K-Probe. Unless CMC MAG F01 burns better...

Dancing Beetle,

Since we both have problems with Nero and -R media, do you happen to have a VIA chipset on your PC?

I don't see what the problem is with CMC MAG AF1. Tried to attach a kprobe scan but I can't get it small enough. In any case Max PI of 13, AVG PI of 1.396, Max PO of 7, AVG PO of 0.120. This would qualify as a good burn. I get excellent results with this media branded as Memorex. This is an 811 with HS0J installed. Burns well on my 411 and Pioneer 106.

Well, that's CMC for you, no 2 batches alike. Only decent burn I can get on this batch is at 1x in Pioneer 106D.

jsl_blues,

I do, I've got a Via Apollo Pro133A chipset. A little old, I know but I only use the PC for browsing and burning.

I'm running XP with the VIA Hyperion drivers, although I can't remember how to verify the version in XP?

..just found this .....HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SOFTWARE and check the listing under VIA and/or VIA4in1Driver...... and my installed version is 4.49

As a test, you guys could try the default MS IDE controller driver. It might not be adequate in other respects, but you'd find out if your driver is at fault.

Dancing Beetle,

I think we're on to something.

I have the exact same VIA chipset with a 600MHz PIII. I have a 811S with this newest FW HS0J, as well as the latest 4-in-1's (4.51). I also could not burn these CMC MAG AF1's with older firmware using Nero or Burnatonce with ProDVD. There is something wacky about VIA chipsets and burning -R's.

I've been burning minus media at 4x with mine and I have a MSI with a VIA chipset. The drive burns reprint Ritek GO4's just fine, a little higher on the errors but they seem to work fine with my stuff.
Might be a particular combo of VIA and motherboards that are affected. I haven't installed the latest 4-1 as they are supposed to be bad.
Might have to try this new firmware, I spose I can go back if it really is worse in quality.

rdgrimes,

I just tried the MS native IDE drivers and no luck there either! Anyone else with Via chipsets able to burn 4x -R's with an 811S?

Thanks.

Hi,

I can confirm the same hang with Nero 5.5.10 when writing with a 811s over DVD-r (Rimax in this case) and using a VIA Apollo Pro 133 system.
Note however that I can burn the same disc in the same system with Roxio's ECDC 5 and also with RecordNowDX.

In both cases, using HS0J firmware.

Regards
