| Does anybody know if there is a firmware update out there for this drive? None on the Memorex web site. My drive has JWS4 frimware version. Write and read times of burned disks are pretty poor right now. I am using Memorex +R 16X media and get read times of 8 to 12x at the most. DMA 4 transfer etc. Other than that, so far so good. 50+ burns and no coasters. |

| i have the JWS4 firmware with wich tool i have to back it up? i read in the link you posted a user having problems with his drive is because of the firmware update? i dont yet flashs mine so let me know if the JWS5 is buggy |

| Hey guys, good review.. I just picked one of these up but definatly want to flash to lite-on firmware.. The Lite-on firmware executable wont let me flash the drive unless its already flashed I guess. Do I have to use a *.cvt file and a flash program first? If so could someone please link me a .cvt file for this drive? Thanks. (EDIT: sorry, I found what i needed just looking at your sig.. thanks... Also just read that the 1673 can be flashed to a 1693? Would I be able to do this with this drive?)
