According to the following site, Optodisks can be pretty poor quality. I think I'll stick with Maxell or Verbatim. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm ke |

| Ok, thanks for all the help and for the insight on digitalfaq.com. (I would have never guessed.) KL0M is out -- that may improve things, and I also noticed on here that Smartburn can be the culprit, so I will try disabling that. Thanks!!! Kroy |
| Hi, I just got my LH-20A1P, its connected as slave on primary channel via 80-pin cable (UDMA-4). It only offers 16x max for Verbatim 16x certified media (MCC004 and MCC 03RG20). Is there any trick with unlocking like with some Sony drives and CDs before? I see that drive tested here also had problems with Verbatim media, allowed only 18x speed, but still I do not get even 18x in CDSpeed and Nero. I cannot believe Liteon released half-engineered drive onto market just to say they were first! I also have LG H55N, no problem burning at 20x the very same batch of media (and quality is totally another issue btw). I wan't use this insane speeds at all, but just curious what is wrong? Any ideas? Same setup, same media, LG works, Litey doesn't. edit: forgot to say it came with latest KL0G FW, but I just found KL0M - should I put it? edit2: strange, MCSE tool can't load KL0M FW, but I found that older versions really had limitations for Verbies at 16x, doubt that changed lately with newer versions. And little offtopic, Liteons are in my opinion too good readers to be trusted for PIPO quality scans, even on bad disks they show very little errors or even excelent results. Only in extreme cases (discs with heavy physical damage) results match real-life case. BenQ is by my experience far more sensitive/'trustworthy', often PIF spikes coincide with reading problems/file verification errors. Read recent article on CDRinfo, they compared Liteons with DaTarius analyzer to see what I am talking about. Last edited by T3R; 23-06-2007 at 22:47. |
| Solved all issues, flashed stock KL0M from Codeguys page. Now I have (at least) 18x support (strange, official KL0M version from Liteon site couldn't load into MCSE, Codeguys version did, they are differently packed obviously, probably different installer type). I know about FB/EOS versions, but I didn't wish to loose warranty. |
| The Liteon flasher are packed and use a scrambled firmware, the Codeguys flasher uses plain firmwares.

| This Litey doesn't burn Verbatim's +R DL. I actually went through 4 of them. The burn stops halfway through. The DL's burn perfectly with my BenQ and LG. At first I thought it was an issue with Imgburn, but after further research I realized it was the Litey. I have the last firmware installed. I've been backing up my DVD's for over 2 years and never encountered a problem with Verbatim's products. |
| I've got the 20A1H and it burns verbatim dvd+r dl very good, and it burns up to 4x. But still i prefer my px 760A, it burns @6x and i haver excelent results. |
| Hi, I am using this same drive.. there is a small problem I am facing, whiling burning the DVDs at 4x or 8x (any media, tried with a lot of brand) Some time, every now and then, this drive cant read its own burnt disks, where as all other my DVD readers, like LG / SAMSUNG / Sony can read the same media which is not readable at Liteon... any way to Fix this ?? |
| hi, me 2 using this drive ... i have no problems in ritting on RW bt dvd-r\dvd+r take a long time 2 rite ...... say 1hr 20min to rite a 4.1gb data on a Mosaer Baer dvd ...... plz can any 1 help me ??? |
| I can tell you that the KL0A firmware sucks ! Flashed it to the latest hacked FW. Maybe this will solve some problems until I get a decent DVD burner. I had terrible results with KL0A fw and Maxell dvd's. I don't think I'll be trying to burn any faster tho lol. This drive is great for making coasters at speeds above 8x for dvd's.
