Bitsetting utility and regionfreeing utility

Someone heared your wishes and I've found a few new utilities for you!

First the bitsetting program: Download it here.

Requirements: Lite-On DVD-Writer (unsure if the LDW-401S is supported yet - will probably be in next firmware release) with the latest firmware. Personally I've tested it with LDW-411S with FS0G.

Note: In order for the tool to work with +RW discs you must either use a fresh (blank) discs or perform a Full erase first. You can use the free tool DVDInfoPro to do a full erase.

This is how it look (push the query button to see current settings):



Click Change and choose DVD-ROM from the dropdown menu:



If everything goes well you should see this:



And then this:



Now I just let the program run in the background and start my favourite burning software: Nero - and writes the disc.....

After the disc is written this is the results:



And another test with DVDinfoPRO:



Tested in various drives and it's detected as DVD-ROM by all of them!!!

ENJOY!! Guess this is one of the first dual format drives to allow bitsetting - and without any firmware hacks etc!! Just a little program........

Shold work with all Lite-On manufactured drives.

This is how it looks:



Select your Lite-On drive in the dropdown menu.

Query: shows the current state of the drive - my picture shows what information a regionfree drive should show.
Disable: Makes your drive regionfree.
Enable: Makes your drive RPC2 (not regionfree)
You could also reset both user and vendor counters as well as changing the region.

And finally rdgrimes found a newer K-Probe version than the one that we have been using: Version 1.1.28.

Only minor fixes - that concerned the read speed test and write speed test.

I have tested the bitsetting utility on my LDW-811S and it works fine for DVD+R. As OC-Freak said, DVD+RW are not yet supported, but that makes no difference for me anyway.

P.S. Note that the latest firmware has to be installed. Otherwise the tool will not work.

Tried burning with a dvd-r. Doesnt change the book type to dvd-rom after burning. Guess the proggy only supports dvd+r at the moment. It would be nice if it can support both dvd-r(w) and dvd+r(w).

this is great ive got to say ive had a moan or 2 over the past month but all i can say is this has to now make liteon in the running for the best dvd writer drive out there many many thanks to all involved
i changed the bittsetting and closed the program then burn with nero and the book type shows as dvd-rom wow

Strange - even the cheap crap dvd players sold in supermarkets support +r dvdr's out of the box - what is this massive deal with using +r's - are people players that naff?

all 5 of my players have no problems playing disks -or+ but if i want to share my camcorder footage with family and freinds then i want to make sure that i have done all i can to get the best results so if compatibility is even better with the dvd-rom bitsetting then i for one would use it every time just to make sure icey surely u cannt see anything wrong with that ??

DVD-Rs have the book type pre-recorded in the manufacturing process, hence it's not possible to change.

Yes jsl is right - this will only be possible for DVD+R and DVD+RW discs.

Yes you are all right - it's set to DVD-ROM until you reboot so there is no need to have it running in the background - but I leave it running in the background since then I may check when the disc is written if it really works

hmm...this doesn't seem to work on the 451s with firmware GSB4. I keep getting an error "failed to set book type" Anyone else get this with the 451s?

The only benefit of this bitsetting program is if your standalone DVD movie player or Xbox have problems reading DVD+R just becuase they are DVD+R. With this tool they are now identified as DVD-ROM discs and should now work.

Well - I don't know if it will work with LDW-451S and LDW-851S drives.

As a last test could you try with an empty DVD+R disc and not DVD+RW?

If it still do not work it will most likely not work before next firmware is released or when there will be a program working with the LDW-451S and LDW-851S.......

I tested it on my LDW-811S with DVD+RW: No success - although the utility did NOT give an error message.

DVD+R work fine, though. So I am really happy now!
