Sorry if this topic has been asked before, I searched, in Speedlabs.org and the forums here, but didn't find exact step by step instructions.
I had a 411 which I modded to 811 via the Zebra mod. I'm interesting in downgrading back to the 411.
I backed up my original 411 eeprom prior to my upgrade.
So, I assume I would do the following to downgrade:
1) using the Ltnflash utility, I go to the EEPROM tab, select 'Load File' and load the original 411 EEPROM (call it 411_ORIGINAL).
2) After the 411 EEPROM is loaded, I do the 'Write'
3) After writing the 411 EEPROM, do I need to reboot? Or should I write the latest offical 411 firmware update?
On another note:
If I were to A) Read the current EEPROM on the drive and save that EEPROM (call it 811_BACKUP) before I do step 1 above, if I ever wanted to upgrade back to the 811 after following steps 1-3 above, could I just write the 811_BACKUP eeprom again to the drive, then write the latest firmware for 811 again?
Thanks

Here is what I would do:
- Flash the drive to a LDW-401S firmware so that there are no limits on what section of the EEPROM can be modified.
- Reboot. (A cold reboot preferrably)
- Write your original EEPROM backup back to your drive using LtnFlash.
- Flash with the latest LDW-411S firmware.

It has been proven, 401,411,811 are hardwarevise identical.Quote:Originally Posted by chok0you should't flash your drive with another's eeprom. it can mess up your calibration data and you get coasters. stay with your 811s as it's a better drive than the 411s.
Lite-On only made small changes in firmware (and, some say also eeprom) to enable the 8X DVD+R burning on 811.
A few say 411 firmware was/is better, but i don´t have any issues @811 and the appropriate firmware.

I donno know where you are living, but you can find 812S at Newegg for 60 US$. And in Europe same drive start at 50£ (England) according to pricerunner.

BTW, my favorite webshop has the 832 for 740SEK, 100 US$ ekv. ~88 Euro. -

Ok, getting back on point:Quote:Originally Posted by dhc014Here is what I would do:

Should I flash with LDW-401S firmware first? My drive is (was orginally a 411). Shouldn't I flash with 411 firmware first then load my original eeprom?, reboot, then flash with updated 411 firmware?
I'm a bit confused between your post and Boomba's post. -

If you read my sig you can see where I live...
BTW, I have done shopping in England and Denemark without any problem. All those webshops have very good return policies. Never needed to use this option though.

I always wonder why life's so hard. At first the car rental places wanted a credit card.. So I got one, but then they said it had to be a real credit card.. Okay... Now these mail order places would only ship to the address on your credit card.. okay.. But now they will only accept credit cards from US or maybe CA. Okay..
And thats just the beginning.. I can see why prices would be so high in some places. Its damn tough to smuggle in a DVD writer stuck in your pocket. Unlike the weed you bring back from amsterdam

1. make shure your drive is using a non 411 firmware, any 401 or 811 firmware is just fine. The 411 firmware protects an eeprom address from being overwritten, so you need to start with a different firmware.
2. flash your original 411 eeprom
3. flash a 411 firmware
Keep this order, anything else will not work. Do not reboot between these steps. -

But my 811S really is crap! The DVD it burns are average to say the best, and due to a strange read error i can´t even use it correctly for KProbe scanning... The only thing its good for is CD burning (though the end of the discs become unreadable when writing at 40x speed)...Quote:Originally Posted by pinto2It has been proven, 401,411,811 are hardwarevise identical.

Nevermind, I figured it out. I had to use a flashfix on the new 411 that I wanted to write to the drive. Once I used the flashfix, the drive took the 411 firmware and now the system reads it as a 411 drive.
Ok, I tried the following steps, and my drive didn't go back to a 411.
Background Info:
Drive current is identified as 811 with firmware HS0Q
Originally, it was a 411
1) Since it has a current 811 firmware on it, I went and flashed my original 411 eeprom to it. when it was finished, it said it was successful in writing the eeprom.
2) I tried to flash it with FS0J firmware, the latest for 411 drives.
3) I got an error saying it was a mismatch with the hardware, as the system still thinks it's a 811 drive.
4) Cold reboot, tried again to flash the 411 firmware to it, no go.
Second attempts:
1) tried to flash ESOK firmware to it first, this is the 401 firmware. Again, got an error saying mis-match with hardware as it's an 811.
What am I doing wrong? do I have to patch the firmware of the 411 to get the drive to take it now?
Help please.

The original LiteOn Flasher does not allow downgrades, youeither have to flashfix it, which will remove this restriction, or you can simply flash a .bin version of the 411 firmware which you can flash using the same software you used to flash the eeprom.Quote:Originally Posted by Bane1) Since it has a current 811 firmware on it, I went and flashed my original 411 eeprom to it. when it was finished, it said it was successful in writing the eeprom.
