LiteOn / PLDS / Sony Writer Discuss, 411s@451s booktype issue at CD and DVD Writers forum; For some reason I can't set the booktype anymore. Using GSBA, Booktype133. Any ideas? It can query fine, but there's no scroll down option to change it.

You should not use LDW-451S firmware on a LDW-411S.

Odd. I've been using 451s for a year.

So if this is true, what would you recommend? Going back to 411, or up to 811? And most of all, would this solve my Booktype issues, which is my question. It worked for the last set of firmware I had...451s firmware, I might add.

GSBA does not support bitsetting. That's why it's no longer on LiteOn's site. Your drive, if it's a 411S, has a different OPU and as such will not read or burn media properly using the 451S firmware. You will need to use either 411S firmware or 811S firmware, but the latter will require a patch to be done to your EEPROM, as it is missing data that the 811S firmware needs. But make sure your drive's hardware is definitely a 411S first, by looking at the label on the top of the drive.

Thanks for all the info!

However, one more time, for the record: I AM and have been using 451s firmware for a year. It works perfectly. Now I know why bitsetting stopped, and that's because I upgraded to GSBA. But please, don't tell me it doesn't work.

We know 411S@451S doesn't work. Many have tried and failed. Even the calibration data in the EEPROM is different. No offense DnDMan, but your hardware must be that of a 451S to run the 451S firmware.

It is possible that DnDMan purchased the drive as a 411, but was given a 451. I had a similar experience when I bought my 851. It was advertised as an 811, and the box never said exactly what was in the box...anywhere as I looked everywhere and thought that to be quite strange...but in a good way...lucky me and lucky DnDMan!!

a question: what happen if I try to convert to 451? It's dangerous? It's revertible?

If you crossflash the firmware, the led will not flash, but the drive will not detect any DVD you insert. The drive tries, but can not detect DVDs. It is revertable if you backup your eeprom before. It even is revertable after you flash a 852 firmware .
All this stuff is not recommended and will void your warranty.

hmmm....I guess that could be the case (buying a 411s and getting a 451s. The first thing I did after buying it was upgrade the firmware to 451s. It worked. Perhaps I was just upgrading it for the actual drive that it really was.. Even now, it seems I can't flash 411s or 811s, as they don't work. Very interesting...

One problem I am having now though...I patched back to GSB9, and now I get crap burns...I mean 250's PI and 150's PIF. With GSBA I was literally in the PI teens and PIF under 4 with every burn. Could I have screwed something up patching back and forth?

And perhaps I'll try the 451s@832 if I really do have the right hardware. Worst that could happen is I kill it and have to buy a new burner for $100. I plan on doing that anyway when dual layer media prices come down from orbit.

To verify this, backup your eeprom with the codeguys eeprom tool and open the file in a hex editor, even notepad is good enough for this task. You will see the string LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-451S if it is a real 451.

Well, did that, and it's a 451s. Did the 832 thing, and first burn had a PI max of 14 and PIF max 2. Looks like a keeper. Thanks for all the info from everyone here.
