Hey everyone!

Yesterday I installed Native Instruments Komplete 4 Collection consisting of 7 Dual Layers DVD-ROMs plus 1 Single Layer DVD-ROM. While the DL DVDs were read at 12x according to Nero Drive Speed the SL DVD was only read at 8x. This was clearly audible as well. I tried Nero CD-DVD Speed on them and came to the same results. I tried firmware MV9N, MS0P (current) and MS0R with 16x OS and Read Speed unlock (MS0P also without 16x OS), all the same results. Unfortunately I do not have any other DVD-ROM here atm to check against.

Any idea what's going wrong? Thanks for any input!

Does the DVD5 have copy-protection, and/or the DVD9 discs?

Nope, both don't have copy-protection. On all of these DVDs (except the first) there are only Library files for the samplers and stuff, which are copied to the harddrive in order to be loadable as presets. The last DVD is SL compared to all the other DL ones, because it just holds less data, and I guess pressing a SL one for that was cheaper for company.

Nothing wrong with the scans. I scanned both at Maximum, which means 8x for the SL and 12x for the DL DVD. For some strange reasons the scanning would halt at about 25% for DL DVD no 7, so I took no 6.

But the DLs are not the problem anyway. Or should they speed up to 16x, too? What makes me wonder is that the SL only read at 8x.

Both DVDs keep the drive spinning at quite a constant speed, so it's not that there are any reading problems which make the drive slow down. It just doesn't speed up at all.
