Pulsee, since you seem to get the LiteOn models before anyone else, it wouldn't surprise me if you do display the first 18x burn using stock firmware and I would love to be the second, hehe.

Sony08D1; the 1693s can read it as per my 2nd diagram. unforunately no liteon I have (unpacked that is) can burn it. (1693s, 1635s or 165H6s)

LOL, hold all 1693S drives.

That's a big problem they have there and I see in Pulsee's scan that MS0F detects Sony08D1 fine.

I'm not sure what's going on. my Plextor wrote it ok, my 1635s and 165H6s won't detect MID codes. 1693s tries to write it but the drive either hangs or cd/dvd speed, I'm not sure. I'm guessing it might be this batch. some of the discs have air bubbles in the inner plastic ring, which I take to be a bad thing. and I paid $20 for 25.

Are they Sony branded or the Sony rejected ones with the Blue and white top surface?

sony branded.
burning with pioneer gives me paramter value invalid 052602. so it's probably this batch. still kind of miffed that every other drive seems to read the MID ok. it's way past my bedtime. I'll do more testing tomorrow.

How strange. Must be the batch. I've never had any problems with the CyQ've and Sony branded Sony08D1's in my drives.

Burning start normally or the distance from the center of the disc is bigger?

Verbatim 2.4x +R DL burned at 4x.

Two scans of the same disc, first by BenQ DW1620 [remember it's an 8ECC/8ECC scanner], second by Lite-On SHM-165P6S.

Compare to burns of the same media by three other drives, posted in this message.

I Compared It With Pioneer Burns, Nec, BenQ & Other Lite-On's Looks The Same.

I Will Say This My SHW-160P6S Is Now Cross-Flashed To SHM-165P6S MS0K
But It's Burnt DVD-R Movies Using MS0K Will Still Not Play On My Standalone Players.

Tomorrow I'll Do More Testing.

I have already send one e-mail to LiteOn support and they answer me.
Now I have send them some test results and pictures of two -R disc FUJIFILM (ID ProdiscF01) burned with my 1635 (YS0W) and my Plextor 716A (1.09).
So they can see the different start position of burning process.
I hope they fix this problem in the next firmware upgrade.

I have done the same. This is an issue with all the 5S and 6S drives. I have had responses from them but so far they are not understanding the problem, even with the pictures. It frustrates me that they have made this mistake again and I just don't understand why they have such a hard time recognizing it. We had to be very persistent to get this fixed before so I guess it's no different this time. At this point these drives producing non standard (actually useless) -R disc's.

Yes, it frustates me too.
Today they answer me another time. They have said to me to try to remove the others drives, uninstall Nero and reinstall it again and if the problem remains then the drive is probably faulty and I can RMA it.
I think this is incredible.

Thank you for the feedback.
Given your situation, would you please try some other DVD-R brands, check if the problem remains the
same?
And please tell us if the disc burned with LiteON IT could read properly on the drive itself?
Then please try to uninstall the burning software both through the Control Panel and by going
into the C: directory and deleting the folders defrag your PC. Then reinstall the bundled Nero only.

Furthermore, try to update Nero from Nero official web: http://www.nero.com/eng/liteon.php

Tip: please disconnect all the other drives in your system.
If possible, please install the drive in another PC in order to verify the problem.
In case the problem remains the same,that seems drive fault, please send it back to the retailer for
services.
