| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! @kamikaze, Put a "pause" command on the last line of the batch file you're using to start pxscan. I had the same problem as you, and the command prompt window was closing before I could see if there was an error message or not. There was an error (mispelled argument), but I couldn't see it until I paused the batch file output before the window closed. I'm not sure if pxscan works at all with the SA versions; try the c1/c2 scanning on your Premium to at least rule that out... |

| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! People always claim they would have read and followed the readme... and in the end, it turns out that they double clicked on the exe, used some ASPI layer not supporting SATA/USB/Firewire etc... also, telling me the command line used to launch it would be helpful, in the case the first 2 points don't apply ![]() ftp1020: It does, when the ASPI layer detects SATA drives (Nero ASPI should, Adaptec ASPI maybe doens't)

| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! Don't let it die ; as Alex says we don't know if it's over yet (that is for Plextors persecution ...) , so keep it high - 4 days since last comment and on page 2 (for me and other standard-users) won't keep Plextor boilin' ! |

| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! Well, I found out about all of this today (have been away from CD Freaks for awhile). I have owned Plextor CD burners since 1996 and have sworn by them over the years. I deeply love my three Plextor Premiums as they really kick butt as far as CD burners are concerned. I made the mistake of buying a Plextor PX-716UF around six weeks ago. If I would have known about all of this, I NEVER would have purchased that PX-716UF drive. Plextor has really ticked me off with how they have handled this situation so far. I will NEVER buy another Plextor product again because of what is happening to Alexnoe and zeb_. Plextor can kiss my b*** (or should I say wallet) good-bye!

| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! Still don't know what all the fuss is about. The Linux sw was derived from commands issued in a windows environment using PTP and a bus analyser. Had to be since the original Plextor sw application probably has proprietary commands not in the MMC spec and unique to Plextor drives and Zeb mentioned Bushound was used. The license that had to be answered 'yes' not to copy or reverse engineer was okayed before the program was run. Since the command set was generated by analysing the Plextor program, Alexnoe and Zeb copied the copyrighted software. Yes it works great in Linux, yes it is value add, yes it has been through many changes to improve it, but it orignated by copying licensed software...what part of that is so hard to follow? |

I smell a business plan here. Anyone want to set up shop in Switzerland and offer worldwide services for reversed engineering? | |

| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! No more news on it I'm affraid....this lack of news is just comparable to Plextor's lack of new announcements of more advanced drives....the last ones seem to be just cut down versions of the previous ones (take the 740). But if Plextor doesn't want someone to write it, please show up their own packages to be used under Linux....by the way, I guess they know this is an Operationg System and a lot of people use its sveral flavours.... Come on, Plextor pleople, your drives work as well under Linux than they do under Uncle's Bill O/Ss....ok they could do better, but thats up to you. |

| Re: Pxlinux : it's over ! AFAIK Plextor never followed up with legal action after the initial EMail. However they did 'lock' certain functions of their future drives in the firmware so these could exclusively be used with their own Plextools software. Subsequently this has led to hacked firmware that 'freed' those functions again. |
