Now it's three weeks ago and they did not want the drive.
Since electronic parts are hazardous waste in Germany I put it to my other elecronics stuff for dispose.
Finally, i sent all pxinfo returns one for each case (readinf DVD DL, DVD+R...) and now Plextor Belgium is ok to send me the px-760a.
I hope it works like the px-712a ??

Congrats!!!! You're right the PX-760A is a real fine nurner.

Currently I'm hunting for a number of PX-760SA. Its a very difficuilt project I'm not sure but it seems the PX-760SA was not produced with the same amount of devices like the PX-760SA (or the SA ist still in use since new mainboard have often SATA only)!? This drive is realy really hard to find. Even at ebay you find 1 or 2 and the PX-760A you find 8-10 very often....

Thanks for the real great idea

I wrote them and they answered lighting fast maybe one hour later or so. I did not expected that fast response.

Unfortunately they do not have any PX_760SA for selling to customers, but I asked for a black bezel (I have only white bezels for my PX-760SA's since I did not find any retails anymore) and they will send me one... that is a real great service!!!!

At the moment zwo PX-760SA more will find the way to me. If I get the last one I found I have everything I need!

I have both an PX760 & a PX800. My biggest complaint with the 800 is that we have had 2 firmware updates for the 760 since the 800 was first released and no firmware updates at all for the 800.

I never knew the 800 was not a true plextor when i bought it and the first burn i tried on it (at max speed) failed.

So for now i just use the 800 as a reader.

I guess that is the most important point, the good firmware support. All my Plextor drives had a real good firmware support over the complete product lifecycle and often there where updates even if a newer drive was on the market.

BTW: Currently I'm watching DS9 - Season 7 on DVD

So when the px-800a is alone it doesn't work.
The only way to get something running is to plug it behind another dvd burner. So the px-800a can "see" DVD, burn DVD but cannot read DVD DL it has just burned !!

i've written to plextor to try a deal.
Getting a px-760a and sending back the px-800a, i wish it works.

It's so amazing Asus and Plextor support have just said "we didn't see this problem before" and we can think "so buy another motherboard".

I don't want to buy a new one, it's the first time i got a such problem.

I recall a Samsung burner had this problem last year.

I thought I read elsewhere on CDF that the 760 was made by Pioneer.
I must have mixed it up with another enduser's comment.

Clubit.com has the 800 for $30 after rebate.
I suppose it's not such a deal if it's an Optiarc.
I was salivating at actually finally getting a Plexy.

The PX-760A and PX-760SA were the last true Plextors!

A list of true Plextor drives:

PX-704A
PX-708A
PX-712A/SA
PX-714A
PX-716A/SA
PX-755A/SA
PX-760A/SA

Most of the drives were also available as external version (UF), maybe some of the drives I listed only as ATA are also as SATA available.

A list of rebaged drives:

PX-504A
PX-740A
PX-750A
PX-751A
PX-800A
PX-810SA
PX-810UF
PX-608CU
PX-608AL

I will not say this drives are no god, I say only this are no true Plextor drives!

If I forgot something, I hope someone will add this to the list

Supplemental info to that list:

The 751 is a rebadge (BenQ 1670, i think). It didn't come available worldwide probably because shortly after it's introduction BenQ themselves stopped making drives.
There is also the 810UF, which is also a rebadge (LG), but a different rebadge than the 810SA (Pioneer).

Here are pictures of the bezel ot the 751 Link

Direct pictures:

The reason I assuming it is a true Plextor was the bezels are quite similar to the PX-716/755/760/PremiumII. But you may be true, since I can not read or write japanese or chinese... The Bezels of the PX-800/810 are different to the "standard Plextor Bezel" used in the past few years, this is the reason of my speculation...

Yes, the bezel is confusing. The tray part is the design used on the premium series drives (755/760), while the rest of the front is OEM-style.

However if you look at a non-photoshopped picture you'll notice the BenQ design of the metal-case (click on picture to enlage):

Yes you are absolutely right. As moderator can you delete the PX-751 in the "true plextor list" and move it to the rebaged versions.
