PX-760A has started burning VERY slowly

Plextor Writer Discuss, PX-760A has started burning VERY slowly at CD and DVD Writers forum; I've got a PX-760A that's ~1 year old. It's probably been used to burn a total of 25 DVDs since I bought it. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R 8x media with this drive and in the past, the drive has successfully burned these discs ~6x - 8x. But I haven't burned

I've got a PX-760A that's ~1 year old. It's probably been used to burn a total of 25 DVDs since I bought it. I'm using Verbatim DVD-R 8x media with this drive and in the past, the drive has successfully burned these discs ~6x - 8x. But I haven't burned a disc in the last three months or so. Until last night, that is. I'm using the latest version of Nero 7.x and when I try to burn an ISO image to DVD, the burn speed is ~0.5x and takes FOREVER to complete. I'm at a loss as to what may be causing this behavior for a drive that previously burned the same media just fine. Could this be a sign that the drive is dying? Or could it be a driver problem of some sort? If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate hearing them! Thanks very much!

Oh, and for what it's worth, the drive is using firmware v1.07.

Have you checked to see that DMA is enabled for the drive?

Thank you LOCOENG! Your suggestion helped me to solve the problem. The transfer mode of the IDE channel that my PX-760A is connected to was set to "DMA if available" but for some reason, the current transfer mode was set to PIO. I was able to uninstall the IDE channel, reboot and let Windows re-detect it. Now the current transfer mode is back to "Ultra DMA Mode 4". Thank you again! I appreciate your help!
