PX-740 won't burn DL discs anymore

I've had my PX-740A for a while now and have never had a problem burning any kind of media until recently I have been unable to burn DL discs, I get an "interpretation error" trying to burn an ISO image in either DVD Decrypter or Nero 7, where I've never had a problem before. Single-layer discs burn with absolutely no problems. The only thing that's changed in my system since I first started having this problem was that I switched cases, but everything internal was transported to the new case, including the PSU. Everything in the system is exactly the same except for the case itself. Plextor support (who, incidentally, referred me here) says that since data is being burned (I will get the error anywhere from 1 - 50% of the burn complete) it's not the drive, coupled with the fact that I bought another identical drive and have the same problem with it also! It's not incompatible media, because it happens on media I've used over and over before (Verbatim, and now Ritek) with absolutely no problems. I've made over a dozen expensive DL coasters trying to figure out what the problem is, so if anyone here can shed some light, I would really appreciate it!

Ritek DL - better avoid that crap, IMO.

Try burning with IMG BURN. Your drive is a REBADGED BENQ 1640. IMO it would be best to crossflash your drive to the official BENQ 1640 firmware. You'll be able to use the QSUITE tool. Take a look at the BENQ FORUM for info.

I would really rather not do any crossflashing because I am positive that will not help. I tried IMG Burn and got the same results. As for the Ritek media, it's listed as a supported media on the Plextor website, but also I was using Verbatims without a problem except for the last 3 in the batch I had, all coasters. I've even gone so far as to buy a new HDD and tried on a fresh install of XP and I STILL get the same error!! The only other thing I can think of is a hardware conflict, but what could it possibly be all of a sudden?

Well I solved my problem, I bought a Sony DRU-820A! Installed it and immediately burned 3 DL discs flawlessly. Looks like I won't be buying any more Plextor drives any time soon...

Interesting...

You do realize that the Sony 820A and the Plextor 740A are both Benq DW-1640's? The only difference between the three is firmware and faceplates.

The SONY 820A is not a rebadged BENQ 1640. It only has the same cooling vents as the 1640, 1650 & 1655.
