px 708a&dual layer= NO (from Plextor email)

MY QUESTION WAS THE FOLLOWING:

Hi!

Is it too early to inquire, is it technologically possible (chipset e.g.) to
make px-708 compatible with writing dual layer dvd+r technology next
Spring????

Honestly i dont really think there's a chance that any drive currently on the market will support it ever, seems to be more of a publicity thingy.

At least Plextor takes its business seriously enough not to give false info/hope to its customers.

Even if the hardware is capable of writing to dual layer discs. Why should they implement such a feature?
They will gain much more profit by selling new drives instead of simply providing users with a firmware upgrade.

Well said, I was thinking the same thing. I would really like to see some proof that 8x DVD recorders will be able to burn dual layered media.
