PX-504A DVD read problem

Hey guys, need some help here . i just got plextor PX-504A , its read and write normal CD finely..but can't read or write any DVDs.. (single or dual-layers). .. the light on DVDrom blinking continuesly . i just checked all the cables, region, even update the firmwire to 1.02... got any ideas???.. ...please help mee..!!!!..

Hello,

I have a couple of suggestions but as I don't know this drive too well, someone else should back me up/correct me.

First off, that drive is quite old and I was woundering where you "just got it."

I believe your problem is down to the media you are using. I am sorry to inform you but your drive will not write dual-layer, double-layer, or -R single layer disks. It is strictly a +R single layer drive (I believe). As a result, any blank disks besides DVD+R's will result in some kind of light blinking error code. What blank single layer disks are you using?

4x +R's are not too easy to find these days (most media is 8x or 16x)

What DVD's did you try to read? It is also possible that the DVD laser has burnt out. Check in you Plextor manual to see what it suggests for your read/write errors. There is a self test that can be run but I'm not sure if this drive can perform the self test.

Crazy! I guess this drive is still availble. This also confirms it is only a single layer +R recorder.

Thank you very much ... adict2jane .. .. i guess the DVD laser has burnt out or my drive had been region locked . I live in Malaysia (region 3) my brothers always post to me some Region 1 DVD ( he lived in U.S ), so , i had changed my region code in winXP 3 times. then it cant read any DVD anymore ( blank DVDs or Movies DvDs)... i had tried all types of region free... but it still not working.

I'm sorry to hear that,

You can use this free software to see if you drive is region locked and how many changes are left. I think you should have 4 changes, since you used 3, you should have one more left.

However, you did say that you tried region free disks so... yea laser is probably gone.
