| Burner: PX-712A TLA #0103 Firmware: 1.07 Media: Verbatim 52x CD-R (94m34s23f, Mitsubishi Chemical Corp Type 3) Burn Speed: 48x AS: N/A PR: On Burning Software: B's Recorder GOLD 7.35 This disc is from one of the retail 50-disc spindles, reorder #94691. You know, the ones that could be MCC, CMC, Prodisc or MBIL, that you used to be able to differentiate by looking at the hub codes before they started this free MP3 promotion and now put a paper label on top of the discs. At any rate, I get very poor results with these discs when doing "test" burns like with PlexTools or CD-DVD Speed, as seen earlier in the thread. However, using true burning software like Nero or B's, I get good burns. Go figure. |

| Burner: PX-716A TLA #0308 Firmware: 1.09 Media: Verbatim 52x CD-R (94m34s23f, Mitsubishi Chemical Corp Type 3) Burn Speed: 48x AS: On PR: Off Burning Software: Nero 6.6.0.16 PowerRec normally limits burning speed of these discs to 32x P-CAV, but disabling it will allow the full 48x burn, and it turned out pretty well. I'm not sure why Plextor decided to limit the speed with the 716A since the 712A could burn them at 48x even with PR on. |

| Two Degrees, I found that MCC CD-R produces C1 (avg/sec) in the range of 2 - 4 when burning high speed. Interestingly, Ritek will produce C1 avg below 1 (of course TY is in this category too.) Ritek can be found in Fuji Made in Taiwan and Verbatim CD-Rs.

| Two new scans made with new firmware 1.09. The changelog for this version doesn't mention improvements on CD writing, but the results are very good even on cheap media as Verbatim CD-R (Phthalocyanine D, made by CMC). Especially Jitter-Beta graph is very impressive... PX-716A, TLA#0202, F/W 1.09. Burned at 4x, VariRec enabled, strategy Phthalocyanine D, value -4. It's my preferite setting, when making audio CDs for use with my Sony Walkman! Scans made at 4x. |

| Burner: PX-W5232TA TLA #0106 Firmware: 1.06 Media: Verbatim DataLifePlus 52x CD-R (94m34s23f, Mitsubishi Chemical Corp Type 3) Burn Speed: 52x AS: On PR: Off Burning Software: Nero 6.6.0.16 Yeah, I got a Premium. Figured I'd better grab one before they all vanish. I had to return the first one back to Microcenter as it was defective, and they didn't have any more beige bezel drives, only black, which cost $20 more. Needless to say I got this beige drive somewhere else. I did keep the spindle of DataLifePlus I found at Microcenter as you don't see those very often. I certainly have no complaints about this result. |

| Sorry about digging up an old thread. Just testing the CD part of the drive and burned a test disc at 48x. Does the C1/C2 test fine but will not do a Beta/Jitter. Transfer rate test is also fine (nice smooth read curve and reads CD'S with no problem) Tried a couple of differtent CD-R's with the same results, same batch though. Anyone care to guess whats up with this?

| I had such discs before, and the Plextor Premium didn't have any trouble performing a B/J test. The PX-712 was kinda somewhere between those 2.

If seen this on the 712 and the Premium too. It's rare but sometimes a drive will just not be able to do a B/J scan of a disk. As Alex has pointed out the 716 then seems to be an even more special case when it comes to scanning. IMHO this is not only valid for CD but also for DVDs. A B/J scan of a DVD with the 716 IMHO always shows more 'angular' jitter curves that the same disk in a 712. No idea if the reason is HW or FW. |

| @hwp. Seeing as how Plextor is supposed to be one of the best CD burners a sticky would be a good idea for a total of 4 sticky's, unlike the BenQ forum that has a total of 9. Why not just PM GF? Maybe our new BenQ/Phillips mod zevia will sort out the BenQ sticky's!! Right zevia?

They could still be trimmed as they lose their effectiveness as a sticky with so many, I have to keep refering to the FAQ's because half the posters in the BenQ forum don't know it's there because of all the sticky's, actually I don't blame them. Great start zevia. Cheers.
