Post your Plextor CD quality scans here

Plextor Writer Discuss, Post your Plextor CD quality scans here at CD and DVD Writers forum; Thanks DrageMester for reply. I have always burn at 32x but I never scan before, now I’m little scared, that all my burned 100+ CD-R (Verbatim) are junk. Next I will tray at 16x.

This time I burned at 16x with fw 1.08 on the same CD-R (MCC Type 3)

C1/C2 seems to be worst, but without C2 error, with Beta/Jitter test I got the same error, but this time little later.

The C1/C2 scan is better now that there are no C2 errors at all.

If you have access to a BenQ 1620/1625/1640 or Philips 1640 drive somewhere, I suggest you try to scan your disc with Nero CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality test to see if the Jitter is really that bad or if it's just the PX-716 mis-reporting jitter.

I don't recall CMC making AZO.

Yes, the image you just showed is Verbatim DataLifePlus AZO, not CMC made AZO like what drpino stated:

Correct me if I'm wrong but CMC doesn't use AZO in their dyes.
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....m+cmc+52x+cd-r

i believe CMC produces a lot of the Verbatim MIT CD-R media on contract (just as they produce a lot of the Verbatim MIT DVD+/-R media - i believe all 16x Verb is currently produced by CMC)...including the ones using the Mitsubishi Chem Corp Type 3 dyes with AZO (and MCC dyes for DVD+/-R)...and my spindles aren't labeled DataLife Plus...

i believe the only way to tell is via hub codes...can anyone confirm the hub code below is a CMC one?

I have tested my burned CD-R (some of them was burned with my old PX-708A) and I couldn’t make Beta/Jitter test even in one single CD-R. I’m just wondering, if this mean problem or not.

My Plaxtor is PX-716A TLA 0203.

I don't have BenQ or Philips to test my CD-R.

My first PxScan of a CDR. Media is Ritek dye type 7 branded as Maxell. Burned at 48X on a Plextor PX-716A, tla 0304 with FW flashed to 1.08, using Nero 6.6.0.14.

Burned and scanned while multitasking. Does this matter?

Thanks

Thanks drpino.

PxScan/PxView is a nice tool and easy to use, although I've not been able to use "autolaunch" correctly yet in the batch file.

BTW, can you tell me what the yellow/gold horizontal line in the Nero CD Speed graph corresponds to?

PxScan/PxView is a very nice tool that's been embraced by the enthusiast community for good reason (thanks Alex). you may have to edit the batch file in order to point to the right device # for your drive...if you can't figure that out from the manual or the site, post a question for AlexNoe and i'm sure he'd be happy to help you out....

the yellow line on the read transfer rate graph represents the nominal RPMs that the disc is spinning in the drive (as opposed to the data transfer rate in MB/s as represented by the green line)...

With regard to the results in this thread please notice that scans made with a 716a and PlexTools <2.25 show spikes that result from a bug in PlexTools.

Burner: PX-712A TLA #0103
Firmware: 1.07
Media: Verbatim DataLifePlus 48x CD-R (94m34s23f, Mitsubishi Chemical Corp Type 3)
Burn Speed: 48x
AS: On
PR: On
Burning Software: PlexTools Professional 2.25

This disc is the first in a 100 disc spindle (reorder #94365, long since discontinued) I bought off eBay recently. Did an FE-TE scan, which didn't look so hot, and then burned it using PlexTools' Write Transfer Test. I've never had an MCC CD-R burn at 48x; PowerRec always forces a 32x burn (not dropping to 32x, but the 32x P-CAV write strategy) which I'm sure most of you know. Well, this time, for some strange reason, my 712A decided to burn the disc at 48x. I was elated...until the C1C2 scan finished.

Continuation from the last post...

I decided to test the disc in my TDK 5200B (Lite-On LTR-52246S). The Lite-On had a very different opinion from the 712A! Much lower C1 errors and no C2 errors at all, and a smooth read curve. I then decided to test the transfer rate on my other Plextors. It looks like all the Plextors agree there is some sort of problem after the 50 minute mark, but it doesn't faze the Lite-On one bit. Curious.

Interesting indeed. I think it shows the difference between each drive's error-correction capabilities quite nicely - note how the two PX716's don't exactly agree (based on the amount of slowdown in the read transfer test), and how the 712 declares that hiccup at the 52min mark to be "uncorrectable".

Taiyo Yuden 700MB, Type 1, 48x, FT/TE-Test said can be burned at full speed, selected burnspeed 52x, PoweRec slowed down to 32x at the 71 Minute mark.

That confirms my statement I've made in a different thread that the Plextor is bad in reading bad discs.

716A - TLA#0202 - FW1.08
CMC, Type 6, 700MB, 52x @4x, Varirec ON (0), strategy "Phthalocyanine D"
Sold as Verbatim "CD-R 52X" (EUR 0,82 each)
Scans for C1/C2/CU, Beta/Jitter with PlexTools and PxScan
I made a copy of an audio CD, for use in my car - original CDs are too much expensive to let them get scratched :-(
CD ("Daniel Powter", by Daniel Powter - Warner 9362-48809, not so long - less than 40 minutes - but a well done album...).
Strange thing! I noticed that the jitter blue trace suddently "moved up" in the graph during scan.
I don't know why! PlexTools jitter measurements are made on a fixed, absolute scale or not?
With PxScan I repeated the job, and it was costantly above 1300 (if I remember well, the higher is the value, the lower is the jitter...)
Can someone please explain this to me?
Note: the last screen capture is the beta/jitter scan interrupted before the mentioned event.

I think it's interesting that no Mitsubishi/Verbatim CD-R media is on the recommended list for the 716A...
