A little bit of mythbusting. This burn is yet another example which confirms that slower is not always better when it comes to burning, depending on the media and drive used.

This is a little experiment with some very precious old school media, inspired by Bob and his ravings about VariRec. The same audio disc is burned twice. The first burn is with VariRec set to -1, the second +1. VariRec +1 achieves lower BLER, but higher jitter, nothing significant though. I've used the default strategy in both cases, and not tuned it for certain dye types (in this case, choosing 'Cyanine' would be appropriate). I might continue to experiment with VariRec in future burns.

The same media and write speed, but VariRec off this time. This seems to be the best compromise between BLER and jitter, that's why I won't use VariRec with this media in future.

I tested the "Recording Strategy" function also, but setting it to "Cyanine" (these TDK discs have a cyanine dye) produced an unreadable disc.

Wow james, that is the best CD-R burn I have ever seen. C1 average of 0.1! Crazy!

Unfortunately, my Premium doesn't support AMQR, would really like to experiment with it also.

The Premium II, unlike the original Premium, is tuned for slow speed burning, and it shows. A pity that you can't buy a black one over here.

I can get the same results @8x and no AMQR but the VeriRec has to be set to Offset: +.5 Default Strategy, I have tried other VeriRec settings but this works best for MIJ media.

Ouch, that really doesn't look good Bob. Thanks for the scans and the 'experiment' anyway.

My experiment with the "Cyanine" recording strategy in the VariRec options went terribly wrong also, as I wrote earlier. The precious TDK CD-R was totally unreadable.
