It is now possible to crossflash PLEXTOR PX-860A to PIONEER DVR-117 :

1 . Use DVRFlash 2.7.3
2. Get the firmware for the Pio at http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=view&id=5660
3. You need to use the -ff option to flash the Plextor ( keep going on answering Yes every warning message you'll get)

DVRFlash -ff e: A0016000.107 A0016001.107

Drive Information:
Description : PLEXTOR DVDR PX-860A
Firmware Rev : 1.00
Firmware Date : 08/12/24
Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.

Why would someone spend twice as much money, just to end up with the same drive that they could have bought for half as much?

The only value is in cross-flashing from a DVR-117 to a PX-860A, not the other way around.

Perhaps if you really, really want a Pioneer DVR-117 drive but only Plextor PX-860 drives are available in your region?

When I got those Plextor there were no Pioneer DVR-117 at that time...

And I was looking for bitsetting I couldn't get on the Plextor ;-)
