Taiyo Yuden -R 16x (TYG03) sold as Panasonic
PX-760a, FW 1.03
AS: ON (did not create strategy, 18x not supported by AS)
Burn speed 18x CAV, no slowdown

TA-Test says: very good, good, good. Very good burn. Slightly higher PIE, but that seems normal for TYG03. A bit of a mass of PIF at the end where the speed goes over the certified limit of the media, but nothing critical. Both the 716 and the 760 read this fine. Very regular Beta/Jitter in the >16x speed area!

TA-Test says: good, good, good. Very good burn. Low PIE (for 18x!), a bit of a mass of PIF at the end where the speed goes over the certified limit of the media, but nothing critical. The 716 has some readback problems, the 760 reads this fine. Beta seems a bit worse than with TYG03.

Not the lowest C1 total ever but very good nevertheless. Jitter stays regular. My PX-755 is giving me some minor C2 errors with FW 1.02 on these.

Very low C1 error rates (except at the beginning) for USRW media.

C1/C2 scan for a burn after a full erase, C1/C2 scan for a burn after a quick erase, Read Test for the burn after a quick erase:

Good result.TA-Test says "good" across the disc and both layers. Both the 760 and the 716 can read this fine. Beta could be a bit more regular. Jitter looks nice.

Burn speed 16x CAV, slowdown to 12x ~@3.1GB

Despite AS being set to ON and no strategy in the AS-Database, AS did not create a Strategy. However the base strategy seems to be pretty mature and the result is pretty good IMHO.

TA-Test says good, very good, very good. Very regular Beta. Low Jitter. PIE are still very low but PIF seems to have a higher total than i'd have expected. Both the 760 and the 716 read this fine (the 760 having a slight problem @0.7GB position)

PX-760a FW 1.03 in an external enclosure

Bridge Chip: Prolific 3507 USB2/FW400 with latest FW dd. 20 April 2006.

As you can see USB2 is only fast enough for 16x and then it's a close call. For comparison i've included results from a PX-716 connected both via USB2 and FW400.

This is exactly the reason why the AS strategy was not created... you should use the AS Mode ON (Forced) for that...

Hmmm. I always though "ON" would limit to AS created firmwares. If it uses AS and FW strategies, where is the difference to AUTO?

Now directly comparing the 755 to 760 the 760 seems to be better, especially with MCC 004. What would you say?

My understanding of Plextor's description:

AS on:
Use AS database strategy if any, use firmware strategy if no suitable strategy present in AS database.

AS auto:
Drive checks media -> compares check result with strategies present in AS database and firmware and uses the "better" one - if no suitable strategy is found drive creates a new in AS database.

So AS on would NOT create a new strategy - AS auto (if required) and AS forced on would do this.

FW 1.03 does not support 12x overspeed burning for these media anymore. 8x is the maximum speed.

Excellent burn with very regular Beta/Jitter. TA-Test says: very good, good, very good.

TA-Test says very good, good, very good. FE/TE-Test says ok, but PoweRec reacts on the tracking error spike @1.6GB and when it generally gets higher to the outside. Minor readback speed-drops for the 716.
Good result but 16x might be a bit much for these media. Notice that 8x towards the end leads to a "very good" TA result. So 12x or 8x might be a good idea.
