Question: Plextor 755SA - Still worth buying?

Plextor Writer Discuss, Plextor 755SA - Still worth buying? at CD and DVD Writers forum; Howdy... I've got a chance to get a Plextor 755SA in good/great condition, just the bare drive, for $20. Just curious if it's still worthy of being a useful drive, or do people think it's best left alone nowadays and maybe I should spend another $10-20 and get something brand

Howdy...

I've got a chance to get a Plextor 755SA in good/great condition, just the bare drive, for $20. Just curious if it's still worthy of being a useful drive, or do people think it's best left alone nowadays and maybe I should spend another $10-20 and get something brand new from Fry's (I have one here where I live, luckily) that might be just as good or better.

My history:

Bought a Plextor CD burner over a decade ago, back when they were still made with steel gears, no kiddie plastic crap like nowadays, and I've owned 7 other Plextors since then, my last being a 760A that I loved but sold recently. I've got a LiteOn DH20A4P right now, and I want to get my entire system on the SATA kick - the LiteOn is the only product in the box on IDE. The two 80GB Velociraptors are SATA, obviously, and I have an LG GGC-H20L also, but I want to add another actual DVD burner (meaning non-Blu-ray/non-HD-DVD) for day to day use and keep the LG drive for Lightscribe burning and movie watching.

So... would the 755SA make a nice addition to my current lineup or... say "I'll pass" and go grab something around $40 from Fry's... lemme know your opinions.

Thanks...

Buy it. Now. Before it's too late. Please. Just buy it. It's still one of the greatest DVD burners ever. Just buy it. Stop typing and thinking, and buy it.

The fact that you even had to ask the question is scary. A genuine Plextor is worth 10 times any current burner.

In fact, the only question you should ask is, "Why is someone selling a good condition Plextor 755 for only $20, when they should be charging at least $40?" Every other question is completely and wholly irrelevant.

The 740A isn't a Plextor. It's a rebadged BenQ DW1640. The 504A is too old. The only thing of value is the 708A, but I wouldn't waste my money on that.

The only drives worth getting are a late TLA PX-716A, a PX-755SA, or a PX-760A.

You better not buy these! 740 and 504 are rebadged3rd party drives and 708 has pretty poor 8x bruning quality and no qualityanalysis features.

The best are 755 and 760.
716 is also very good if you do not burn faster than 12x.
712 is a also very reliable, high quality drive, but lacks dual layer capability.

All other Plextor DVD burners are not "Plextor made" and therefore mostly not worth the extra money that plextor charges.
