Hi,

I have the plextor 24/10/40A.

Until now i only have bought cheap cds, so when i burn a cd, i let the software (cloneCD, nero ) choose what speed its the best for recording. It has always burn at 16x.

Today i bought some Sony cd-r 700mb cds, that are 1x-40x compatible. I burned some cds on cloneCD and nero, but it always burns at 16x.

In cloneCD i have choose several options, burn at max speed or force it to burn at 24x but when its burning the cd, the max speed it achieves is always 16x (16.2) no more.

In nero , i set the record speed to 24x, when recording it says that is recording at 24x, but it takes exactly the same time has it were recording at 16x.

All cds i have tested were data cds, not audio.

Can anyone help me ?!

Thanks.

It's normal.
Plextor Power Rec II chooses the best writing speed for media you are using and if it doesn't recognize the type of media, burns at a safe 16x.
Try out to upgrade the firmware if you don't have the latest (1.04 I think) already installed, may be that will solve the problem for Sony 40x media, but I'm sure they're not in the Plextor database for 1.04.
You got one of the best cd-rw driver ever made for consumer use.

Bye

Is your Plextor connected to a promise card or controller? There is a limitation as to the burning speed of a CD Burner connected to this channel. Try to connect the writer to the primary IDE channel (if it is currently connected to a promise card). That just may do the trick.

I have a Gigabyte board with a promise card. according to Gigabyte, 16x is a limitation of the chip.

My plextor has the version 1.02, i will download the 1.04.

Just have to execute the file right ?

No. I have an Asus A7V133 motherboard, in the promise controller i have only my main harddrive, in the first ata66 ide i have another harddrive shared with an Asus cd rom and in the second ide i have only the plextor.

Maybe i should try other cd-r discs, tomorow i will buy a package of 50 tdk cd-r compatible up to 48x.

Tks for the replys.
