Hmm, I wonder if this version will work for people with ICH8R southbridge running in AHCI mode that have Plextor SATA drives attached to the Intel ports.

Plextor America just posted 1.06 for the 755 and 1.05 for the 760. Nothing in the change notes for SATA, but maybe it fixed your issue?

I notice in both 3.11 & 3.10 I randomly would have the checkmark for 'enable DMA' under 'Drive Settings"/'Advanced' disappear. Sisoft Sandra and Windows both indicate that DMA is enabled for my Plextor 760A. I usually just check 'enable DMA' and then cancel the request for a reboot.

Anyone else experience this?

It might happen if you have a look at these settings while another programme blocks the access to the drive (e.g. while burning/reading/testing).

Since this version Plextor disabled the activation by offline for against the keygen.

Love this, not only are there drives way overpriced, they have the balls to charge for there pro XL version software which should at least be included with the purchase of there drive.

You are going to love it even more when they have the balls to charge you for each Firmware update.
Yes I have to agree the last few models haven’t been anything special and some of the other DVD drive manufactures have been bringing out better burners a lot cheaper I think the 760A will be the last Plextor I will ever buy.

The 760A is the 1st Plextor I ever purchased.

Are there big differences between Plextools and Plextools XL ?

XL looks nicer, has a more friendly interface and supports DVD-Video creation (although that appears to be broken again in v3.11 ). It also has support for video capture devices (though I've never used those functions) and automatic scanning/reporting of discs (which is actually pretty handy). With a bit of effort, XL will also run on Vista - something that Plextools will probably never do due to the way it is written (and development seems to have pretty much stopped).

The licensing system for it is a real pain in the arse though. It runs continually in the background (although after XL has launched you can manually kill this with no ill effects) and occasionally swallows huge chunks of resources for no apparent reason (very occasionally, though) but what's really annoying is that every time you make a hardware change, your license breaks and you have to get it updated before you can use the software again. Even a driver upgrade can trigger this.

So, if you use Vista, do lots of scanning, don't change hardware often and don't mind giving Plextor even more money then yes, it's worth buying

Will it convert Divx and Xvid files ?

No, it can just burn pre-authored IFO, BUP, VOB layouts.

Haven't seen this yet although I had to have my gfx board replaced with an interim board until my own card has been repaired. Also, I update drivers regularly and haven't been asked to renew any license for PTPXL yet. Could this be because I have an OEM XP?

It's probably just ide subsystem changes that cause it then. Moving drives from one channel to another or changing ide drivers etc always borks my licence, though but then maybe that's just because I'm running it on an unsupported OS (2003 x64)....

My previous post probably sounded a bit more negative than I intended - I do like XL and I'm glad I bought it when I got my Plex. I find it way more useful than, say, Nero (which cost me twice as much), I just find it a bit rough that you pay twice as much for a Plextor drive and then on top of that you have to pay another £30 to use it's entire feature set.

Can you burn an ISO or bin & cue files with this app ?

I looked for a open button or command but there doesn't seem to be one.
I assume it would be under disk maker ...

Try Disc Copy if you want to burn an ISO.

Here it does not work neither It says that the is not enought space available on disc (of course a blank disc is inserted and data fits it perfectly). Then, the disc is unavailable for Plextools or other programs, I have to restart Windows ((

Yes - just enable overburning and it works.

Weird. In 3.10, if I enable overburning it won't write ANY DVD+Rs at all (-Rs work though).
