| mik3 Sometime ago I was downloading a Plextools update and noted where the file was coming from. Most manufactures, and software companies will have an ftp. site, ie...Plextor, Ahead... to name a couple, some are public and some are not. I just make note and use it when neccesary. Another way is to use a company name and explore, like... ftp2.nero.com etc. |

| Why hasn't Plextor America released firmware 1.03 yet? Are they concerned that the release will be too close to the heels of 1.02? It seems to me like they should release better firmware the second it arrives. Unless, do you think that Firmware 1.03 in Europe and Asia is the same as Firmware 1.02 in America? Could that be possible? - ImBAD |

| No, no... they are different. ![]() ET Quote:

| Ian post this on cdrlabs http://plextor.jp/download/firmware/px716beta.html http://plextor.jp/download/firmware/px716_1c04.exe That's a very rough beta version according to my sources. They suggest waiteing for the real firmware since there is hardly any media out there yet. Only thing that it might be nice for is extraction of some -R MID codes so identifaction of this media and manufacturer is supported. Yeah, it disables things like VariRec, GigaRec and SecuRec. According to their website, the final firmware will be released in mid January. They promised DVD-R DL support in December. They're delivering it.. in beta form. Just a few things to consider (translated from website): # This firmware was not sufficiently verified. # Updating to this firmware is the customer's risk. # The company will not compensate if data or hardware is damaged from the firmware upgrade. # Technical support isn't available with this firmware.

| @ raygay, could you also offer a Plextools scan for your Ricoh DL media? Bye, Frittenbude |
- #120
| Yes, thank you. That is what I have meant. If it's not too much work for you, could you post a SUM1 scan? Best regards, Frittenbude |

| @raygay, For DL media, you can adjust the Time Length Indication to 10GB in Plextools - Preference - Q-Check PI/PO.

| I found that one of the fixes in hardware revision 02 (ie. TLA0202) is the reading problem that was found in hardware revision 00 or 01. This link shows that my old 716a with TLA0001 was a bad reader, it means that PI/PO scans done by 716a 1.01 reports twice error compare to 712a 1.05, especially at the end of the disk. With my new drive TLA0202, now PI/PO scans reports from 716a and 712a are the same! First pic is TY T02 8x DVD+R burned @16x PoweRec on, scan in 716a. Second pic is the same disk scan in 712a.

The CDRLabs comparison seemed to indicate that the 716a tended to underreport PIE by a wide margin. That might lead a 716 owner to conclude that their 716 was a "good reader" when "inaccurate" would be closer to the truth. In your scans above, Zevia, the 716 is reporting (slightly) less errors than your trusty 712. The question is: is the 716 a better reader or just less capable of detecting errors? You have to admit, it sure solves the problems of the 716 being a bad writer! ![]() Hmmm again; makes me also wonder about those wonderful BenQ 1620 scans everyone reports, too. |
- #124
| My scans above were done in Good Accuracy. 716a reports less PIE max while more PIE total. Maybe if I rescan the disk again, both with High Accuracy, it will change... but no... too lazy ![]() Regarding the BenQ/Nero scan, I think BenQ/Nero scan is quite accurate. Most of the scans report similar error values with 712a/Plextools, and only a little reports higher or lower values...
