It's no problem. I used to have several with that firmware type and flashed them to 1.06/1.07 successfully.
1.56 seems to be the firmware version for some industry machines.

Just have "Buffer Underrun (030C09)" error on my PP2 (FW1.03), when using Plextool to burn an audio cd.

I guess it is the time to RMA this PP2.

The "030C09" was also my problem a few month ago. (Link). But in my case it could be an incompatibility with the Prolific Chipset. I had this problem only a few times and I could reproduce this problem only with a particular audio CD. Don't know why, but the problem alway occured at 50% with this audio CD. But I'm honest, I really don't know what the problem was.

When I got the new Premium II I received an email with instructions, that I have to deposit the not working Premium II if Plextor does not want it in a time span of two weeks. I did not receive any messages anymore from Plextor so I "dumped" the drive.

Do you use your drive as internal or external drive?

TM, I use the PP2 as an internal. I flashed it back to FW1.02. So far I have burned 3 audio cds w/o problem.

I do not have any problems with FW 1.03. As far as I could find out the burn quality does not change from 1.02 to 1.03. for this reason I'd say the FW update is not mandatory...

The "030C09" error is a very strange thing. I also had this problem month ago and it was solved with a new device. But I'm not sure anymore if this problem was really a hardware issue....

BTW: Nice name change.... good bye Rolling56, and welcome Bob

Just checked the CDSpeed2000.com's error code list.
Found that 030C09, unlike the other 030C0Xs, is just a loss of streaming, not the writing strategy error causing.

The actual buffer of PP2 is 4.6MB reported by Feurio (The original size is 8MB, only 4.6MB is usable, but still large enough). So I think that it should not be the common buffer-underrun case. It may be caused by something unstability from your hardware or OS or connection-cable.

Burn Speed: 52x (reduced to 32x by PTP)
Drive/Firmware: Plextor Premium II/1.03

I tried all 5 media I have a FE/TE test, none of this media should be written at highest speed (says PTP )

Next: 24x since 32x was the max. speed
