My PX-40Ts cdrom-reader and PX-W4220T can read through CDS100 and CDS200 (100 being easier to rip than 200)!

An important issue here is the fact that (allmost all?) Plextor can overread into lead-in/out which a lot of other brands can't... (see the list of EAC here: http://www.ping.be/satcp/eacoffsets01.htm#- check the 9th column)

Usually CloneCD should do the trick, but extracting with Exact Audio Copy and Feurio should also be possible, allthough you need to know what you are doing and what settings you have to use.

Very interesting. So, in order to read and rip a CDS protected audio disk, is it necessary to be able to over-read the lead-in, the lead-out, or both?

I have one of those inexpensive Delta 52x drives that the chart says the thing can overread the lead-in. Is that good enough??

Thanks.

From what I understood you need (at least) for CDS100 a reader which can overread into lead-out... Not sure about CDS200, but I guess it is the same...

Argh...so it's over-reading the lead-out that's critical for ripping a CDS disk, eh?

I wonder if it's possible to alter the performance of existing drives to give them that capability with just a firmware change. You'd think that some manufacturer like LiteOn would be all over that.

I wonder if RIAA will threaten Plextor with a lawsuit unless they remove that capability from their drives?

I can see it now...an underground market for illegally hacked firmware. DMCA prosecutions on the guys who provide the hacked firmware. Court rulings making it illegal to link to foreign web pages that have the firmware. Only in the USA, where money buys laws, and republicans are making plans for nuclear war.
