Yes this can be done also, using the Flash Utility v4 and the EEPROM Utility v6.

I have the utilities and the Liteon 424 firmware. My Plextor is sata/lightscribe/etc.
I've read the information on the different utilities and while I could be missing it I didn't see the "Steps to make a Plextor a Liteon" process.
What are the steps?
Thanks for you work by the way.... -

Just switch the firmware and drive selected.
1/ Flash LiteOn firmware
2/ Use the EEPROM Utility on the new LiteOn drive
3/ Depower the drive/system and restart__________________

Thanks. What am I using the EEPROM Utility to do? I'm good with flash the firmware. But after I flash the Plextor drive with the liteon firmware, what am I using the EEPROM util to accomplish? -

The EEPROM util resets the drive id so after flashing with liteon firmware, the eeprom util then tells the drive its a liteon drive? -

Yes that's right. Follow the instruction screen and backup you EEPROM, just for extra safety.Quote:The EEPROM util resets the drive id so after flashing with liteon firmware, the eeprom util then tells the drive its a liteon drive?

I am reading Plextor bin now and saving it using Flash Util.
Have extracted the Liteon bin from the .exe file using xflash util and have the zlin.bin file. -

Look more closely at NewFish's FAQ. Don't extract the bin. Just load the exe flasher file (from my site) when prompted for a file to flash.Quote:I am reading Plextor bin now and saving it using Flash Util.

I double checked the firmware. My US based 880SA is sata/lightscribe/smart erase which is the ihas424. -

1/ Run the Flash Utility v4.x.x
2/ Select the Plextor PX-880SA drive
3/ Select "Write Flash"
4/ Select the firmware ATAPI.iHAS424_A.ZL1N.stock.exe
5/ Complete the flash
6/ Run the EEPROM Utility v6.x.x
7/ Select the LiteOn iHAS424 drive
8/ Select the Crossflash tab
9/ Select "Convert Drive"
10/ Complete the conversion
11/ Depower and restart the system__________________

You have a plextor drive that you made into a liteon or is it a liteon to begin with? -

LO makes clones for other manufacturers like Plextor, HP, etc. The iHAS424 A in question has clones as well, thus: iHAS424 A = PX-880SA (Plextor) = 1270d (HP). The firmwares are what distinct each drive from another, but in essence, they can be crossflashed back-and-forth. Likewise, non-LightScribe drives can use LightScribe-based firmwares, BUT the non-LightScribe drives won't gain LightScribe function due to absent hardware. In other words, I could crossflash an iHAS324 A (w/o LS) with the 880SA firmware and still use the drive, following C0deKing's steps as mentioned above. I could also revert the iHAS324 A to its original state by restoring its EEPROM and a binary firmware
The instructions have been explained in details already, if it still doesn't work, then I suggest you do NOT crossflash your drive because you may kill it forever. There could be something in the your setup that's blocking the process.__________________

I've followed the steps precisely.
In the EEPROM util there is a place to set 20x. On that screen it says, 19.3 is recommended for the 20A3 series. What is the 20A3 series?
All the instructions, illustrations are liteon to plextor as in your example. I am going Plextor to Liteon.
In the flashutil it shows 2mb flash, id EF 14 00 28. Flash Type NEX(NX25P16)
As for my setup I have a LG bluray/hd dvd drive on one serial port. The Plextor dvd on another. Nothing fancy. -

Have you searched what it is?Quote:Originally Posted by jsmiddleton4What is the 20A3 series?
There is no difference going from Plextor to LiteOn.Quote:Originally Posted by jsmiddleton4All the instructions, illustrations are liteon to plextor as in your example. I am going Plextor to Liteon.__________________
