| For comparison to my results. the folks at CDRInfo now have reviewed the 755SA with FW 1.02 here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Revi...rticleId=16685 |

| well, after looking @ your results, I think there is somthing wrong with their drive. A lot of the single layer + and - R test look down right awful. Many of the disks are coasters as they cannot be read back. Also, MKM 003 burn @ 8x resulted in a coaster, wtf? I took a look at their initial review and all the burns looked much better. |

| I can confirm that MKM-003-00 @ 8x doesn't work properly

| EMTEC 700MB 40x CDR (MPO Type 7) PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 48x CAV, no slowdown These discs feature a gold reflection layer and are advertised for archiving puposes. Notice the superb FE/TE result. However 48x burning with Firmware 1.02 still needs work (see C2 errors). FE/TE, C1/C2/CU, Beta/Jitter, Read scans: |

| EMTEC 700MB 40x CDR (MPO Type 7) PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 32x P-CAV, no slowdown Same as above but 32x only. No more C2 errors. C1/C2/CU, Beta/Jitter, Read scans: |

| Taiyo Yuden Type 1 700MB 48x as sold by Plextor PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 32x P-CAV, no slowdown You'll remember the burns @48x of Yuden discs (as here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...5&postcount=11) produced some (minor) C2 errors. Reducing the burn speed to 32x makes these disappear. Also Beta and Jitter look better too (no surprise there). Strangely enough the 755 will not read burned Yuden discs at full speed. Compare the read-scan of this and the linked burn above with the read scans of the MPO burns above. In combination with the results of the MPO discs above the conclusion seems to be that CD burning with FW 1.02 shold be limited to 32x. C1/C2, Beta/Jitter, Read: |

| Taiyo Yuden Type 1 700MB 48x as sold by Plextor PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 4x CLV, no slowdown When Plextor announced the Premium 2 CDRW and that it would support burning at 2x speed (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=176989) the question arose whether this made sense. The discussion made me think that most reviews nowadays only test CD writing at maximum speed. So how do modern drives at lower speed? Basically a very good burn but some (5) C2 errors. Can be read at full 20-48x (compare to the 32x burn above!). Conclusion: Nowadays modern drives can burn Cyanine-based high speed media sucessfully at slow speeds. C1/C2, Beta/Jitter, Read: |

| TDK 700MB 48x (Ritek Type 7) PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 4x CLV, no slowdown Big problem towards the end (but no CU errors). The disc shows no mechanical problem (scratch, dust, etc, ...) in the outer area. Since the Premium can burn these @4x without problems (see: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=159) this must be a problem of the 1.02 Firmware of the 755. | Verbatim +R 16x (MCC 004 00) PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: OFF Burn speed 16x CAV, no slowdown, Total time 6:08. Burn without AS to compare with the AS burn as shown here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...01&postcount=6 Basically a good burn IMHO. However it reminds me alot of what happened with Sony +R 16x: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...12&postcount=7 when AS was set to Auto decided not to create a strategy. Beta and Jitter look a slightly worse than with AS. TA Test says: not good, very good and very good. The Read Test shows a smooth curve for the 755, again the 716 has problems and has to fall back to 2x. My conclusion would be that with FW 1.02 MCC 004 00 is best burned with AS Auto or ON. | Taiyo Yuden -R 16x (TYG03) sold as Panasonic PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: Auto (did create strategy) Burn speed 16x CAV, no slowdown Not the lowest PIE-values ever but still a very good burn. Nice Beta for a 16x burn. TA-Test says: good, good, very good. Comparison to PX-716: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...postcount=2029 FE/TE, Burst, Sum1, Beta/Jitter, Read (755, 716) scans: |

| Taiyo Yuden -R 16x (TYG03) sold as Panasonic PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: Auto (did not create strategy) Burn speed 12x P-CAV, slowdown to 8x between 3.4 and 3.6GB, rest @12x Slowing to 12x doesn't really lower PI/PO values compared to 16x, but then this burn is without AS what might account for it. Still a very good burn. TA-Test says: good, good, good. Burst, Sum1, Beta/Jitter, Read (755) scans: |

| Taiyo Yuden -R 16x (TYG03) sold as Panasonic PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: ON (no existing 8x AS-strategy, did not create strategy) Burn speed 8x P-CAV, no slowdown Slowing to 18x doesn't lower PI/PO values compared to 16x, slight reading problem for both drives on the outside. TA-Test says: good, not good, good. Looking at the results for this media @16x, 12x, and 8x it seems the 755 likes these media best at full speed 16x. | hwp, do you have a photo of the disc and packaging of those 16x Panasonics. I've got the old 8x ones here, how do they compare? |

(perhaps with slightly different color but of the same basic layout-design). The disc surface is golden with minor small markings only ("Panasonic", "1-16x", "DVD-R", etc.) Quote:

| TDK 800MB 40x (TDK Type 5) PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 48x CAV, no slowdown Very good burn. Jitter could be better but it's an overspeed burn so one cannot really complain. FE/TE, C1/C2, Beta/Jitter, Read scans: |

| TDK 800MB 40x (TDK Type 5) PX-755a, FW 1.02 GigaRec: 1.3x Burn speed 8x CLV, no slowdown Audio content, ~118min Remember that both 90min media and GigaRec are not part of of the official CD-R specifications. So scanning and the results are always a bit questionable. 10 C2 errors. Notice how the amount of C1-errors per second follows the Jitter curve very closely. C1/C2, Beta/Jitter scans: |

| Anyway thats pretty good result for 1,3 on 90min disc. I remember doing 1,3 90min with Premium and having worse results. Don't find the disc to compare right now.

| Strange. I can only burn @8x with 1.2 with my Premium. Otherwise the results are quite bad. But nevermind! Sorry for disrupting the 755 thread.

| I got a question about a wierd error lately since I did a firmware upgrade and downgrade again. from 1.01 to 1.02 and back to 1.01 to see if that fixed the problem as I read allready on the forum. With both platinum 8x and the memorex 16 x dvds ( bought yesterday) I before could burn at 8 speed ( platinum that is) Now all of the sudden the drive spins up to around 7.6 x then kicks down to 0.7 x and from there spins up to 6x and even drops to 5.7 at one time and just holds on that speed. (looks like a cap) taking the 16x disks to burn in 10 minutes. Also the lead-in takes around 1 min 15 seconds to make before that was 30 seconds. Anyone can help me ? I turned AS off btw just to see if it was the AS doing it. [edit] UltraDMA is on. Also I did a verify and it started at 5 x kicked back too 2 I opend up the drive info and I suddenly spinned up ( looked like it got a new impuls or something and now it's verifing at more then 10x [/edit] log: I 01:30:34 Destination Device: [0:0:0] PLEXTOR DVDR PX-755A 1.01 (F (ATA)I 01:30:34 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-M01-00) (Speeds: 6x; 8x; 12x; 16x) I 01:30:34 Destination Media Sectors: 2.295.104 I 01:30:34 Write Mode: DVD I 01:30:34 Write Type: SAO I 01:30:34 Write Speed: MAX I 01:30:34 Link Size: Auto I 01:30:34 Test Mode: No I 01:30:34 BURN-Proof: Enabled I 01:30:35 Filling Buffer... | Verbatim 700MB 32x US+RW (Mitsubishi Chemicals Type 5) PX-755a, FW 1.02 Burn speed 24x Z-CLV, no slowdown (new media, aber 3 burning and full erase cycles) While the 755 knows these media it yet lacks a usable writing strategy for them. Remember that the limit for C1 errors (green) is 220. Amazingly the result is fully (albeit slowly) readable (no CU errors!) in the 755 (and also in a Premium). Yet another indication that the 755 is an excellent reader. C1/C2, Beta/Jitter, Read scans (scans done at 4x, since no faster reading was possible): |

| Taiyo Yuden -R 8x (TYG02) sold as Panasonic (printable) PX-755a, FW 1.04 AS: Auto (did create strategy) Burn speed 8x P-CAV, no slowdown FW 1.04 does not support 12x overspeed burning for these media anymore. 8x is the maximum speed. PIF = ~70 POE = 0 Excellent burn but Beta/Jitter could be a bit more regular. TA-Test says: very good, good, very good. (Jitter is always 5, but peak shift is slightly off) Burst, Sum1, Beta/Jitter, Read (755, 716) scans: |
