| The 'ct bashed the 755A badly in their latest review (mostly due to substandard writing quality) ... but they also pointed out that it isn't possible to read copy protected music CD's any more ...

| Verbatim +RDL 2.4x (MKM 001 00) PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: Auto (did not create strategy, AS does not support DL) Burn speed 6x CLV, no slowdown Very good burn. Very similar quality to what i get from the 716. The 755 reads this with 8x and the 712 with 12x without problems. Beta/Jitter scan failed in the 755 at the layer break (Bug in Plextools?). So i scanned in the 712. FE/TE, Burst, Sum1, Beta/Jitter, Read (755 and 712) scans: |

| Verbatim +RDL 8x (MKM 001 00) PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: Auto (did not create strategy, AS does not support DL) Burn speed 8x P-CAV, no slowdown This writing strategy still needs some work. Beta/Jitter scan failed in the 755 at the layer break (Bug in Plextools?). So i scanned in the 712. While the scans don't show POFs, this disk seems to have problems when reading back. | Taiyo Yuden +R 16x (Yuden000 T03 00) as sold by Plextor PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: OFF Burn speed 16x CAV, no slowdown This one burned with AS OFF to compare to an AS burn (see first burn in thread). Very good burn IMHO. Single cause for grief: Jitter is a bit high at the beginning (TA Test says not good) but gets better later on (TA says good) Burst, Sum1, Beta/Jitter scans: |

| That has to be one of the best T03 scans I've ever seen. |

| hwp, is your batch of Plextor T03 media by any chance TH000021? The reason I ask can be found here: Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+R (YUDEN000 T03) Batch variation

Anyway, the 'ct bases their quality assessments entirely on AudioDev measurements with an extreme focus on in-spec disc jitter and absolutely no focus on PIF numbers (which I do not quite understand ... they once gave a '++' to written discs with a PIF max. of 13 and a PIF total of about 15000). Besides, they always test single media specimen leaving their reviews very vulnerable to quality fluctuation ... one or two pieces of junk media can theoretically turn a good drive into a bummer and thus ruin the result. As for the 755A review ... I highly doubt the catastrophic MCC003 Lightscribe result ... MCC media is and has always been among the most compatible media you can get if you own a Plextor drive. If I were working for 'ct, I would have repeated that test with a different piece of MCC003 media.

| Verbatim +RDL 8x (MKM 003 00) PX-755a, FW 1.02 AS: Auto (did not create strategy, AS does not support DL) Burn speed 6x CLV, slowed to 4x for the last few MBs Again as with the 8x burn above this writing strategy still needs some work. Beta/Jitter scan in the 755 failed at the layer break (Bug in Plextools?). So i scanned in the 716. PIE/PIF/POE results are OK, Beta is better than the 8x burn but still outside the norm (+.15 and -.05). TA is not good on the first layer, very good on the second. All in all a burn that works, but the 716 currently does better @6x with these 8x media, look here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...postcount=1855.
