Firmware for HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4482

I have mistakenly updated my drive with the wrong f/w which has made it inoperable. The drive is an OEM model mfg by HL Data Storage Inc for Dell computers. HL don't deal with the end user and Dell don't have any f/w for this model on their site. The drive was shipped with version E107 f/w.

Does anybody know where I can obtain a copy of the original f/w E107 or, alternitvely, if it is possible to recover the drive to its original state?

I did the same thing with the "help" of Dell's online technical support - I unsuccessfully flashed the E107 to E108. This is because the E108 provided by Dell is only for the GCC-4481B (not the GCC-4482B). I of course got Dell to replace the drive under warranty; but before the replacement arrived I found a working firmware from a Lenovo (formerly IBM's PC division) technicnal support page. I found the page at the top of a Google search for "HLDS GCC-4482". Here is the web link:

Click on the link at the bottom of the page to download the IBM 1.01 firmware for the GCC-4482B. It works great! Also, this firmware causes the drive to show up as the "GCC-4482B" in the Windows device manager instead of just "GCC-4482".

Hey, just happened to be working on a Dimension 3000 last night and going through the bios update/ reformat/ driver seeking game, and found everything needed to make this system work beautifully (for what it is, anyway).

A new bios for this dvd/cdrw was released today by Dell, here is the link:

Updates to version E114, with a simple dos based utility. I am getting ready to flash right now, if there are any hiccups then I will post info here, if you see no further post, then consider the process a complete success.

Also if anyone needs help finding *ANY* driver/firmware/whatever for the Dimension 3000, mail me.

ok, well the first problem is that you need to make a boot disk with this firmware flash, and the system (Dimension 3000) does not include a floppy drive. Another option would be a pen drive, but I dont own one and don't really want to buy one just to flash this dvd drive. The only other option I could think of is to boot from my secondary dvd/rw drive, which I just flashed last night and am worried that if I run the flash program from there it might flash the wrong optical drive (theyre connected to the secondary channel, the GCC4482 set as the master, and the dvd/rw set as the slave. Any ideas on how safe it would be to flash one from the other? I assume there is some risk involved because when I flashed the slave last night the instructions had me disconnect the other optical drive and hook the dvd/rw up as the master before starting.

ugh... might break down and disconnect the 3.5 drive from my other computer and hook it up just for flashing purposes.... I hope it doesnt come to that.
