Hi everyones...thanks to read.

I have a Pioneer DVR-111D that i've bought last summer. After reading a few posts here about crossflashing this drive, i've realized that DVD-RAM capabilities could be great for my automated incremental backup tasks. To be able to set the booktype was also interesting, so i crossflashed the drive to DVR-111L using TDB's 111L 8.19INT flasher. Crossflashed successfully as Nero infoTool reported the drive as a 111L with firmware 8.19. I then upgraded to 111L 8.26INT. Everything went fine and could use Nero Burning ROM without any problem. Nonetheless, i've noticed two problems thereafter with the new firmware:
-The drive is no longer silent...i mean the drive spins the discs at high speed when mounting it or browsing it's content.

-As the subject mentioned, i can't read a dvd-video disc anymore (they're original store bought ones). Nero Showtime 3 when reading the disc, gives me the message: "Sorry, the folder you have selected does not contain a valid DVD-video, SVCD ou VCD structure". I did successfuly played such discs a while back before flashing the firmware. So what i did was to use TDB's 111D 1.06 flasher to revert to a DVR-111D 1.06. Then i used the 1.19 flasher from TDB joined with the original 1.19 microcode file from Pioneer. After flashing (successfuly), i then had a DVR-111D 1.19 RPC2. Tried again Nero Showtime... and voilĂ ! Played the dvd-video discs without problem. Pushed the test by flashing toward 111D 1.29 with TDB's firmware. Checking with infoTool, the drive was effectively back to RPC1. Trying again to read a dvd-video disc, Showtime gave the same message "Sorry, the folder you have selected [...]". Now it's clear that Showtime is not happy with an RPC1 firmware.

At that point what would you suggest? Dumping Showtime for something else? I did try to find an original 111L firmware that i could use with TDB's flasher to get an RPC2 drive, but all i could find were dead links! Do you know a place were i can get original 111L firmwares?

Now for the second problem about the drive that is not very quiet without it's original 111D firmware, is there's a solution for that when using a 111L firmware with it? If not, then...forgetting about setting the booktype that the 111L firmware allows, have you tried the 111 firmware on a 111D ? Does the drive remains quiet without spinning madly the disc like it's the case with the 111L's firmware? I know that i could try it for myself... but i'm not shure how much often the flash memory can be overwritten so i preffer to stop doing experiments for now and write this post. TIA for your reply.

If you want a silent drive, use 1.xx firmware.

Flashing your drive to rpc-2 will not change the dvd video problem.............

Thanks for your replies, Michael and Chef.

I've tried VLC and also WinDVD. They both played without problem my DVDs with the drive using an rpc1 firmware (111D 1.29) from TDBs. I then flashed back to 111L 8.26INT. Checked again with VLC and WinDVD and they were still able to play the movies. I know that i complained about the fact that the drives spins the discs at high speed when mounting them, but when accessing the disc normally with the dvd player software, it's spins slowly (hence silent), so i'll finally keep the actual 111L 8.26INT firmware.

>If you want a silent drive, use 1.xx firmware.
I didn't knew that, Chef. But since TDB's firmwares for the 111L are all 8.XX, if i wanted a silent drive like the original 111D firmware was but allowing dvd-ram writing, the remaining choices would be the firmwares for the 111, isn't?

Yes Chef...i did the test. Can read a dvd-video with Showtime IF using an rpc2 fw. But anyway i quickly found that it's not a reliable piece of software (compared to the other two ones i've tested)...so i dumped it.

Had the same problem with Nero showtime 3 using my benq 1620 and rpc1 firmware. WinDVD worked fine. Flashed back to normal firmware and Nero works fine now too.
