Just in case someone else would like a hint:
www.bootdisk.com

If you have a boot disk you can always boot to there, but you don't have access to all DOS commands, sinds DOS is no longer included in Windows XP (it was left out since Windows ME if I am not mistaken)

Just right click A:, choose format, check the dos boot disk box.

I thought it would be more complicated, but that worked fine.

Note: under DOS, NTFS (filesystem often used under NT/2K/XP) partitions are not accessible!

Yeah, I agree, I dont think even Fdisk can access an NTFS partition, I think (may be i'm mistaken) if there's only one partition and its an NTFS partition, then Fdisk won't recognise that partition at all, as Fdisk is based in DOS.

In the original question, for what reason did you want to boot to DOS, may be to format the drive? To do that, I'd throw in my XP cd and start to go through the install routine, in one of the screens it gives you an option to create/delete any existing partitions. So if you wanted to wipe your drive, just go through the install routine from the CD.

Hope that helps

yes fdisk can see ntfs partitions, But not if the partition is made with a 3rd party partition program like partition magic.
