Will this burner work on my computer

Have been using a CD Cyber Drive 52X24X52X on my computer. Decided to buy a LiteOn 8X DVD+-R/+-RW DVD/CD Rewritable Drive. Jot home to find out on the box that it requires a faster unit than I currently have. My Computer is 225 megahertz Cyrix MII & 98SE.

Will this burner work at slow speed or just won't work at all?

Re: Will this burner work on my computer

I would say that given those specs it will not work. Not only that but you are definitely going to want to upgrade your version of Windows. Only Win2k and XP support formatting of the HD for NTFS. The other versions of Windows only support FAT32 which has a 4GB file size limit. This royally screws your options if you plan on going the free route for making DVD Backups (DVD Shrink w/ DVD Decrypter burning in ISO mode). You are definitely overdue for an upgrade. You wouldn't believe the world of difference it makes in your ripping times.

Re: Will this burner work on my computer

Ghoster - Thanks for the reply. I have been using latest Nero with the Cyber Drive for storage of photos and data. Have also copied a few CD discs for safety. Thats all I have used it for.
The 140 firmware you indicate that I should be up dating. How do I up date? Will it void the Warranty?

Bought the Liteon to image the computer hard disks as the CD drive wanted quite a few dics to back up my computer's "D" drive and the "C" is a little larger. Took over 4 hours to do part of the "D" drive before I ended up cancelling the process part way through the second disk.
Yet copying CD disks it doesn't take much time and adding to RW Discs are no problem also.

G@M3FR3@K - 225 - don't know if you mean it will work or not.

Jesterrace - Thanks for the the advice. The "OS" on the box "Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP. I have 98SE but not 450MHz.

Anyway thanks for your help. Something further to think about.

Re: Will this burner work on my computer

Ghosters - Seems the not very old Cyber Drive has the 140 firmware installed. Thanks for mentioning the upgrade. I am very new to the burn world and still don't really know what I am doing , but at this stage I have had a few burn problems when "trying to do reburns". "All new burns" seem to burn ok.

Thanks

Re: Will this burner work on my computer

It works.
Installed the Lite-On and it has made a back up of 1 of the hard disk drives. Seems the specs are lower than on the box according to manual on the disk in the box.

Haven't tried doing anything else at this stage.

Thanks - "Ghosters" for suggesting that I try it. Would have put it in the cupboard if you hadn't suggested as I know very little about computer workings.
