why can't I move these files around?

Newbie Forum Discuss, why can't I move these files around? at Starters forum; For some reason or another I can't move these files around in the order that I'd like. What might the problem be? Sorry for all the dumb questions but I'm soo new to this.

Well they're probably in alphanumeric order of filename (the default for data files). You'll have to rename them if you want to use the filename as the sort criterion: eg
  • 'Sopranos S1E1.avi'
  • 'Sopranos S1E2.avi'
  • 'Sopranos S1E3.avi'
  • ...

Hi,

just rename the files like this:
01-file1.ext
02-file3.ext
03-file2.ext
and so on.

I tried that and still no luck. I don't get it? I've never had a problem like this. Do I need to convert the files or something?

Take the extra space out of the filenames, and also use eg "05" instead of "5"... "04" for "4" etc...

Alphabetically ...s1e10... does come immediately after ...s1e1... and ...s1e1... does come after ... s1e6... (the space is < a number).

Yes please, seeing as it's a very different problem from the thread title.
