Welcome to CDF's:

I never use it. Best verify is to watch it if it's a movie or read it back to your hard drive for data.

4x or 8x will be ok to burn those blanks you have.

If you click "help" at the top of the ImgBurn interface you´ll find lots of info

For example, one of the guides listed will give you http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s...ndpost&p=66441

It´s a great program

IMHO verify is a waste of time, as long as you didn't get any errors then the movies will be fine and as Bob stated the burn speed will be fine at 6X or 8X

Always, unless you don't really care.

Using TY media, it's almost guaranteed you'll never need it, unless your drive has broken down and is coastering discs without you realising it - in which case the verify will tell you immediately if there is something wrong.

That said, for DVD Video, you can turn it off.

Burning TY media at the media's rated speed should be fine with all modern burners. Your pioneer 116 is a modern burner.

I burn 8X TYG02's at 12X in my Pioneer 115. The scans are near perfect. This whole slow burn stuff is nonsense and only applies when you have a bad media to burner match. If you have to burn the discs slow get new media.

Taiyo Yuden -R's and Pioneer are a perfect combo.

Here's a couple 12X burns (scanned in my Benq).

I always have verify enabled; if you for some reason don't have time to verify one disc, you can always cancel the verification before it's finished.

Verification assures that your disc is recognizable and readable (in that drive) and that the data hasn't been somehow corrupted. 99% of the time verification will pass when using good media in good burners at a reasonable burning speed, but you don't want to be caught by surprise for the rare case when your burn is not OK - that's what verification gives you.

You should burn faster with that drive - at least 6x, but 8x is probably just as good or even 12x.

These newer drives are not optimized (or even tested?) for burning at 4x with 8x/16x certified DVD media and the results when burning at 4x are not as good as when burning at 6x, 8x or 12x.

When I do critical data disks like firmware updates and backups I like to use verify just to make sure it's completely error free, otherwise for movies and things that aren't mission critical I don't bother.
If it plays it's good enough, if it doesn't I redo it

Pioneer has even stated that in their surveys of usage most folks burn at maximum speed, thus it's important that their drives work correctly at rated speeds.

Yo-

I burn at 8x for both my Taiyo Yuden 8x +R T02 and my Verbatim 16x +R MCC 004 and the 16x -R MCC03RG20 medias and use the verify function only when doing 'critical data' burns-eh!!
