Unable to see newly-inserted CD
Newbie Forum Discuss, Unable to see newly-inserted CD at Starters forum; Whenever I install a game, or other program that contains more than 1 CD, it always asks/says, "Insert CD #2". So I do, but it never sees the new CD. I click the 'Okay" button, but it keeps saying, "Insert CD #2". Any ideas? Plextor Premium drive. Windows XP Pro

Whenever I install a game, or other program that contains more than 1 CD, it always asks/says, "Insert CD #2". So I do, but it never sees the new CD. I click the 'Okay" button, but it keeps saying, "Insert CD #2". Any ideas? Plextor Premium drive. Windows XP Pro w/ all patches BlindRead/Write 4.5 Nero 6300 CDRWin 39F I can only see the volume name of the CD that is in the drive when I boot. If no CD is in the drive when I boot, and I insert a CD, it will NOT see the volume name of the CD that has been inserted. Yet I can OPEN the CD and see/use the files fine. The problem is that multi-CD programs/games do not *think* the next CD is inserted, cuz they look at the volume name (which never changes, no matter WHAT I do) I even tried the procedure listed here (populate volume, etc.): http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....threadid=85893 But I don't have CloneCD or Alcohol 120% installed. I think it might be a problem with the BlindWrite Patin-Couffin engine, but not sure. And I'm sure others would've had this annoying problem. Desperate.

The installer doesn't give me the option to navigate to a different drive/directory. The only options I have are: Okay + Cancel. I inevitably have to hit cancel. I'm kind of surprised no one else has this problem. What about "Auto Insert Notification"? Is everyone turning that off or leaving it on? I noticed, when I installed CDRWin (latest version: 3.9F) that it offered to and suggested I turn that off (disable), so I let it do that. I wonder if that might me causing me problems. How about ASPI drivers? What ASPI drivers are you all using? I also noticed that CDRWin offered to install some ASPI drivers. I let it. Could that be the source of my woes? Update: I tried v4.60 from ForceASPI and still have to dang problem.

| Normally when something like this happens to me I go "Oh well, Windows needed reinstalling anyway". Obviously thats not going to be much help to you though. I would ininstall all of your CD copying programs. I am not a fan of CDRWin at all. Make sure that ForceASPI installed and is using the correct ASPI. There should be a program in the download that will do this. If its not there then search for somthing called aspichk. I can't remeber if I downloaded it seperatly or not. Found it .here near the bottom of the page. It also shows some pic of what to expect. Next turn back on Auto-Insert. Try that little lot and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply/ It would suk to re-install Windows. It takes me 2 or 3 days to re-install & configure all my apps. ASPI looks good, as per ForceASPI (v4.60). I can rip & burn fine. All that works great. The only problem is that the dang volume name won't change after the initial boot. No matter what I do. CDRWin doesn't do anything at boot. If you don't launch the app, Windows never knows it's there. So, it's a clean app in that sense. I searched Google and found a guy with a similar problem here: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Storage/Q_20796435.html altho I can't find a clear solution in that thread. I tried turning auto-insert-notification both on and off. Makes no difference either way. Still have the problem.

fyi i found a fix: http://www.tburke.net/info/regentry/topics/30300.htm changed this registry entry for: Autorun HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom from 0 to 1 & rebooted. worked like magic. Description: Determines whether the system sends a Media Change Notification (MCN) message to the Windows interface when it detects that a CD-ROM is inserted in the drive. The MCN message triggers media-related features, such as Autoplay. If the MCN message is disabled, the media features that use it do not operate. soon as i press the eject button, the volume name goes blank. a few secs after inserting the new cd, the new volume name shows up .. just like it's supposed to. that one was really kicking my @ss.
