I am not able to install software off a DVD using my AOPEN DUW1616/ARR Drive. I can play movies and music, but just cannot install software--specifically I am trying to install Lord of the Rings Online. I insert the DVD and the install menu pops up, I hit install and nothing happens...I wait, nothing...I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and see that the installer is "Not Responding" so I end the task. I've tried it several times and always get the same result. Only once an error message popped up saying something about needing to update my .NET software so I did that--but no luck. Btw, I've tried to install other programs off DVDs using this drive and they don't install either.I have a CD-ROM drive in the second (bottom) bay which is set as the master and my DVD-ROM drive in the first (top) bay which is set as the slave (I think I got that right). I'm running Windows XP SP2. I've updated everything I can think of, the AOPEN drivers, Windows, .NET... Can anybody figure out what might be going wrong??? Thanks! |

| Don't know that I can help. Can you open the dvd to see the various files? Put the dvd in the drive. Cancel the install when it pops up. Then go to My Computer and right click on the dvd drive. This will give you a list of options, so hit Explore. If it will open the dvd and show the files, I'd say your dvd drive isn't to blame. You've got something screwing around with the installer program. You don't happen to have Norton or McAfee security suites do you? Can you install programs off of cds with this drive or with your cdrom? |

| I do have the McAfee security suite installed. I thought that might be the problem so I disabled McAfee, but the problem persisted. I must apologize for giving false information in my first post, I went back and tried to install some old games on DVD and they worked--specifically Battlefield 2142 and AutoAssault. World of Warcraft, however, did not install. So I'm thinking you're right, Kerry56--there's something screwing around with the installers for these two games. Not sure what it could be--I've checked the forums at Turbine's site (LOTRO developer) and AOpen's site, but found no help. I was, by the way, able to open the explorer for the DVD and view the files--although it was pretty slow in opening. If you think of anything else please let me know. Thanks! edit: after I launched the installer manually from the explorer window nothing happened for about 2 minutes...then this error popped up: unpack.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application. Last edited by shnoozin; 01-05-2007 at 06:35. Reason: adding error message |

| I'm afraid this is beyond my meager skills in XP. I looked in the knowledge base at Microsoft but didn't find a specific entry for your problem. My only suggestion is to join the forum at ArsTechnica and make a detailed post asking for help in the Microsoft OS & Software Colloquium sub-forum. They'll either ignore you or you'll get some top quality help. Won't hurt to try anyway. |

| I finally found a workaround at midnight last night! I booted my system in safe mode and was able to install the software, so there was obviously some startup program that wasn't jiving with the installer--you were right. I still need to figure out which startup program is the culprit, but at least I got my game going. Thanks for your help Kerry56! |

| Myself I would set the DVD Burner as master and the CD Rom as slave and make sure that you have 80 wire IDE cable installed. Also the DVD Burner should be the hooked up to the first connector
