| SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY
I have a Sony TV KDL-40W3000 that's 1 year and 9 months old. For the first time yesterday the unit goes on standby when turning the power on. I was instructed by Sony support to do numerous things such as unplugging the power for 30 minutes up to leaving it unplugged for overnight and still the problem persists. I have also unplugged it on my Monster Cable surge protected and used the wall outlet directly and still nothing happens. The standby mode blinks 13x and pauses for a second continuosly. My warranty has already expired. I'm hoping that someone can help me to fix this without sending it our for service. If it does need repair hopefully someone can give me an idea the cost of the repair and hope that this would not cost me more than I paid for the TV. ![]() Please advice. Thank you...BC45. | |

| Re: SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY I have the KDL-40W5500 which is relatively similar. That's a difficult one though as you can't even get into the menus to alter any settings. Don't know if you're in the UK or not but my UK model uses a standard PC style power cable so I suppose you could try another power cable in case there's a cable fault. Other than that I don't know that there's much you can do apart from getting it repaired. Wombler |

| Re: SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY It does seem that having it repaired is probably the only option. However as a last resort unplug everything from the rear of the set and leave for one hour. Reconnect the power and the aerial only and turn on. If still no go then I would hazard a guess that there is a fault on the power supply in the unit.

| Re: SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY If you don't have the service manual and don't have any electronics knowledge other then turning thing on your 99 percent sure you'll have to get it repaired. It probably has a issue in the power supply making it go into standby mode because it detects a fault or the issue causes it to do that . It could be many things besides my guess so unless you know how to trouble shoot it and all that your kinda done unless you open it up and find a blown fuse or something like that. You cam also zap yourself touching the wrong things so be care and unplug it if you decide to poke around, and some sets will still have juice across some parts even after it's turned off and unplugged... |

| Re: SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY Yeah touching the insides of a TV is definitely one for the specialists. ![]() The charges stored in the capacitors are well beyond lethal level so unless you know exactly what you're doing there's no point in taking any unnecessary risks. Wombler |

| Re: SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY I've been directly zapped by the flyback and other areas before and at the least it'll sting the crap outa ya, and worst case knock you on your ass or dead... I got hung up in a set that grounded me out once and my screw driver flew across the house into the kitchen and I was messed up for a while...I was young and stupid once ![]() Now if I'm in a set I try to use one hand at a time so in case I do zap across it just hits the one hand and doesn't go to ground through me. |

| Re: SONY TV GOES ON STANDBY A lot of Sony Bravia have a faulty firmware that shuts then down after using the television for 1200 hours. Really! The television can be temporarily reset by disconnecting the AC Power Cord from the wall outlet, wait at least 30 seconds and then reconnect the AC power cord to the wall outlet. After this reset procedure, the television should work properly until another several months of use has accumulated. For a correct firmware upgrade contact Sony directly.
