Hi - can anyone help, please

Bought a new laptop about a month ago and am unable to create a media recovery kit. Every time I try I get error message "failed to write to media". I've tried +R and Sony -R DVD disks. Wasted about 6 discs so far and really frustrated.

Hardware is identified as Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S and driver is dated July 2001. Cannot seem to find any driver update - hard to believe !

Drive plays DVDs with no problem.

Any help appreciated
