So about SATA and slow performance...

Here I am again.... I ended up buying a Samsung SH-203B after reading around here and having a recommendation thread here a while ago.
I've searched the forum for all the slow SATA threads and have read most of what I could find, but I still don't understand.

I'm guessing the unit is great, but it's performance is currently wicked slow. I'm trying to burn a CD right now, and it's burning at 4x! It's laggy when reading and takes a while to detect autoruns, so I'm guessing it's read performance is too slow as well. I also have an ASUS DVD-ROM unit there as second unit, which appears to be having no issues at all. How can I measure this?

As far as I've read, it appears that it has something to do with the SATA chipset used. I'm positively certain my chipset has native SATA support, but guess that doesn't have much to do with it.
My chipset is nForce4 SLI.
What must I do? I really don't feel like having to sell the unit just to rebuy an IDE burner again.

Re: So about SATA and slow performance...

Is the drive set to IDE compatible mode in the BIOS? If not, do you have the latest chipset drivers installed?

Re: So about SATA and slow performance...

Hi!
About the IDE compatible mode... is it supposed to be on or off? And yeah, latest chipset drivers... nvidia hasn't bothered making any changes for the last 3 years I think.

EDIT: Ok, went into the BIOS, and these are what I have to choose for the drive: Extended IDE Drive Auto/None (currently Auto), and Access Mode Auto/Large (currently Auto). I have a DFI Lanparty nForce4 SLI if that helps.... tons of BIOS stuff.

Mind sharing what you did that fixed it (in case somebody else has a similar issue someday).
