| Slow dvd read/burn speed Nero Please Help!!!! DMA issue???
Hi Guys. I'm hoping you can help me. I have just purchased a new Acer Aspire 6930z after my old Acer 3050 finally gave up the ghost. I installed Nero 7 last week and when I tried to burn a dvd the transcoding process was very quick and I was super impressed as this used to take hours but when it came to the actual burning it was very slow. When it finally finished I went to check the dvd quality as I always have done in the past using the scandisk option on cd-dvd speed in nero tools and this was just painfully slow it took nearly an hour it my old brick of a laptop would have been quicker!Im at a loss - I'm no expert. I googled the problem and read something about enabling DMA however I have a Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller and no IDE channels so am pretty certain that doesn't apply to me. Im running Vista and have an intel pentium dual core processor if that is of importance. Any help would be appreciated it is driving me insane I may return to quill and parchment! Thanx Becca xxx | |

| Re: Slow dvd read/burn speed Nero Please Help!!!! DMA issue??? Hi ![]() Using CD/DVDSpeed, do a Burst* rate test. This should be a quick guide to the DMA aspect. Edit just read your post properly. ![]() The Burst Rate* should still be good though as an indicator. Also might like to try vso-inspector to check your discs. It is free. http://www.vso-software.fr/products/.../inspector.php Not my day I meant Burst Rate & not Transfer Rate. |

| Re: Slow dvd read/burn speed Nero Please Help!!!! DMA issue??? Hi I did a Burst Rate test which came out as 36 mb/s is this good/bad/ugly? ![]() I then did a transfer rate test as well with a dvd-r in and that averaged out at 3.01x speed. I also downloaded VSO inspector and did a scan of a disc using that I am getting the roughly same scan speed of around 1.75x So is this not a nero problem then? Is there something wrong with the drive? Thanx for any help. Becca |

| Re: Slow dvd read/burn speed Nero Please Help!!!! DMA issue??? Hi ![]() Not sure, but guess that the burst is OK for a laptop. I get over 70 mb/s with my PC. You could try uninstalling your drive (even the controller) via Device Manager. Then reboot & let Windows rediscover them. Generally if the drive is reading & writing OK. Just taking a while. It is something else clogging up the works. |
