Says insert blank disc, but, it is blank!

I just got a new computer. I am trying to copy a dvd disc to a dvd-rw. The only information I have a on my burner is its HL-DT-ST DVDRW DL. I am using Sonic DigitalMedia plus v7 for copy software.

My problem is that it keeps telling me to insert a blank disc. There is a blank disc in the drive. When I go to disc info it say that the disc is DVD-RW, Blank Media, Erasable. So what I don't understand is why it keeps saying there is not a blank disc. Because the Sonic program obviously sees the blank disc, but, doesn't see it when I go to copy.

Can anyone help please.

What kind of BLANK DISC does it want?

DVD±RW, SL (single layer) or DL (dual-layer) ???

It says, "Please insert a blank or Rewrittable DVD DL

Ok, but isn't there a way to compress it or something to fit on this disc. The program on my other computer used to ask if I wanted to do that automatically.

Sure there is. If you're trying to copy a movie, there's DVD Shrink, CloneDVD2 with AnyDVD, DVDFab etc...

These programs and others will compress the movie so it fits onto a single layer disc.

Ok, thanks, I guess that means that the program I am using doesn't do that. Is there a way to find out if this program will do that?

Sonic DigitalMedia? I've no idea, as I don't use it....but hopefully someone who does can tell you.

I tend to use CloneDVD2, with AnyDVD to remove copy protection, myself.
