| Hello, CD Freaks I have a concern in ragards to ripping DVD'S. I'm currently using AnyDVD v6.0.1.1 when ever I try to go and rip a DVD, it transfers the whole 7.47GB of the DVD to my Hard drive. I only want the movie and ending credits which in most cases can be 4.7 or less. How can I make AnyDVD v6.0.1.1 compress the movie down to a smaller size? I also have CloneDVD. What are my best options? Please advice because I'm lost now. I want the movies to be compressed the same way when I use to use a program called X Copy DVD. It compressed the movies perfectly. Only, I don't have that program anymore............. |

| a good place to begin to fmiliarize yourself with clonedvd2 is its help file. it's a very comprehensive and useful tutorial. |
| When trying to rip the DVD, Cone DVD says it can't or that it's not safe. Aside form all this I'm using Windows XP x64. Is there a another program I should know about? |

do you have anydvd running? anydvd must be running in the background otherwise nothing is being decrypted. |

| @ digital_trans, It appears that you do not have the AnyDVD software program activated when using the CloneDVD software program. When the AnyDVD software program is activated the little Red Fox Icon located in the lower right hand task bar will be bright Red. Suggest viewing the AnyDVD- CloneDVD user Tutorial that proves detailed on the use of these programs. http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?threadid=72022 Best Regards, bjkg |

AnyDVD 'Ripper' can rip DVDs 'in Full' like DVD Decrypter. This is a good option to have if you need to rip DVDs that are slightly scratched that is causing unreadable bad sectors or to rip the full disc to harddrive for use by your video editing programs.

Right! I've completed the tutorial for AnyDVD. It seems that CloneDVD2 is harder to get a hang of with all the options. I'm getting there slowly but for sure. -Knowledge is Power! Knowing is half the battle! |
| Thus far, I've made it to this level of knowledge. Pictures say more then words! After the DVD was copied I made an ISO image of the DVD.I use Fire Burner for all my ISO images. Never the less Fireburner wouldn't rip the 4.7GB DVD iso any suggestions? Last edited by digital_trans; 12-06-2006 at 06:37. |
| I'm now ripping the iso with Nero 6 Ultra Edition. I'm burning the DVD content UDF format. |
| you could have just burned with clonedvd and saved yourself an extra step. on the final screen where it asks you to select your target, choose "dvd writer" instead of "ISO/UDF image" |

| because a dvd says 4.7GB on it does NOT mean that there are 4700 MB on the disc. there are 1024 bytes in a kb, 1024 kb in an MB, and 1024 mb in a GB. if you do the math you end up with about 4.36 true GB. it's the same with hard drives as well. DVD-5 is specifically the setting for single layer discs. use this default setting on the opening screen of clonedvd2 if you're burning to single layer discs. |
| @haveacigar good catch...i didn't notice that he selected a custom size in the first window. clonedvd2 is a simple program. more often than not if you're changing the defaults, you're doing something wrong! unless you know edxactly what you're changing and why you're changing it, there's probably good reason that the setting is the way it is |
| When I completed to boot process for avydvd v6.0.1.1 I get a pop up window that tells me both my drives are disabled. This is not true. I forwarded this info to Slysoft for their response. Has anyone else had this situation happen to them?? I have retraced all my steps thru my computer to insure the drives are valid Cheers....WCH |
| Very helpful information. I'm going to redo the rip again and take note of all the suggestions. Thanks guys! You don't know how much this means to me! ALOT!!!!!!! |

Okay, I changed it to DVD-5 Starting burn.....Clone DVD2 puts an ISO DVD Movies folder on my desktop. In the folder the file name says VIDEO_TS. That might be the ISO image size I might be able to rip successfully but don't take my word for sure. I'm going to see what happens next. My computer can handle doing anything. | Okay, everytime I try to rip a DVD it's saving it as a VIDEO_TS file and tha's what exaclty burns to my dvd. Or if I choose ISO it burns the iso to the DVD-R. Only it's an iso or has stated VIDEO_TS. So after each unsuccessful burn I've not make a copy of the DVD to play. Were getting closer. If someone could give me a step by step approach that would rock! such as click this click that next do this and that and then bam, bam, boom your done! |
