First of all, hello to everybody as this is my first post here.

2nd, I just got the new ST TOS DVD set and wanted to back up the regular remastered side of the DVD ( not the HD) to a DVD+R DL (didnt want compression) as I want to have it just in case something happens to it--I am a BIG trekkie!!

Anyway, I used DVD dycrypter and then DVD Shrink and everything came out wonderful except when I put it into the player, it doesnt seem to properly go through the menu and I can only view the first episode. So, I tried a regular movie and the same thing happened. Has anyone else had problems backing up movies using DVD Shrink onto DVD+R DL discs?

I am using Memorex discs and Sony dvd player with Windows XP

thanks for anyones help

Dvd Shrink is one program that should never be involved when it comes to burning to DL. As long as it works & you get no errors, Dvd decrypter ISO Read Mode to your hard drive, which will output 2 files, ISO & MDS. You would then use ImgBurn, (Dvd Decrypters burn engine updated), in ISO Write Mode to burn the MDS File, which contains the layerbreak info. My personal choice would be RipIt4Me, Full Dvd Rip to your hard drive, then place the resulting video files into a folder you create called VIDEO_TS, which you would burn with ImgBurn in Build Mode. You can use the Memorex if you wish, but I would recommend Verbatim, made in Singapore for DL burning.

thanks for the info.

I checked the status of DVD Dycrypter and see its in "File" mode when I did the original DVD. Just as a test using ImgBurn, can I do anything with this file or do I have to delete as its useless in that format? I am trying it now but it seems to be burning an image to a file on the hard drive and didnt ask for a disc.

and I'll also swicth to verbatim DL shortly but want to use the few discs I have left

thanks

Take the original output video files from Dvd Decrypter, put them in a folder you create called VIDEO_TS & try ImgBurn in Build Mode, guide for which is here. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showforum=4 Something optional you can also do or not is before you put the files in a VIDEO_TS folder is run them through a program called FixVts. You just drag a VOB file into the FixVts window, make sure all three boxes are checked & click Full Dvd, then let it do it's thing.

You can use the files with ImgBurn in Build mode to create an ISO and set your output to Device (your dvd burner) instead of Image File. This will send it straight to the burner instead of going onto the hard drive.

You'll need a blank DL disk in the drive first, of course.

Edit: So why is it I am always 1 minute late posting stuff around here lately? Its a conspiracy I tell you.

to beef barley:

OK, I havent downloaded the other programs yet that you recommended, but I put DVD Dycrypter in ISO Read mode to my hard drive.

It just finished and I found 4 files (forgot to create a folder and just sent them to my docs) the 4 are

video_TS.mds
video_TS.iso
Star_Trek_TO1_D2.ISO
Star_Trek_TO1_D2.MDS

should I put all 4 files in a folder called VIDEO_TS ?

I was about to burn using ImgBurn but wanted to be sure before I started-you said to burn the MDS file--what about the ISO? I was about to follow the manual but wanted to be sure on this point-- Its probably a stupid question but I'm brain dead today

thanks

Or you could download the trial of Clone CD and just put the original in the drive and when it finishes copying put the blank Dl in to burn.

It costs after the trial but it beats mucking around as you are finding out.

I forgot to mention I was able to back up the first one using ImgBurn--YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

well I went back and found the video_ts folder within ST from when I originally used DVDdycrypter to put the dvd on my computer and followed the guide and everything was fine until the following error message box

DeviceIOControl(FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME) Failed
Device (goes on to identify my burner)
Unable to lock volume for exclusive access
Reason: access is denied

cancel try again continue

can anyone identify?

thanks

ImgBurn, ISO Write Mode & choose this file: Star_Trek_TO1_D2.MDS to DL. This is the file that contains the layerbreak information. Please make sure that you do nothing else while you burn, just in case.

Then got more confused as its a 9kb file and the Star_Trek_TO1_D2.ISO file has all the "stuff" in it--over 7gb worth--dont I need to be burning this too? didnt realize something like this can be soooooooooo confusing LOL

I appreciate everyones help!

Two ways to do DL, first one ISO Read to ISO Write, (browsing to the MDS File). Second is to burn video files created from a Full Dvd Rip to your hard drive with ImgBurn in Build Mode browsing to a VIDEO_TS File as source.

The .MDS file is just info for setting up the layer break etc. The prog then, all by itself, goes looking for the .ISO file, and burns it.

well I downloaded Ripit4me and used it for the DVD and it automatically used dvd dycrypter and uploaded the movie fully. However, it divided the video files into one folder, and certain other smaller files into a seperatefolder within ripit4me..is this normal? and which files do I pull in to imgburn to burn the dvd now?

thanks

Depends on what you set in the prefs.
I would choose ISO mode to burn that target file with imgburn then onto a DVD9 (Verbatim DL).

You could do what is suggested above or. I am going to guess that you did a Full Dvd rip to your hard drive & those smaller files are VOB, IFO & BUP, those are the files that you would put in a folder you create called VIDEO_TS & then burn with ImgBurn in Build Mode following the guide that you have already seen on to a DL disc.

I hope this helps a bit. I am assuming that some of this is partly done & the rest is what you want to do.

Easy Dual Layer.

The first part, although I show a certain program here, can be done with any program that will rip your Dvd that you own &

are backing up to keep the original protected, to your hard drive so that you have files with the extension VOB, IFO & BUP.

For this we will do what is called a Full Dvd Rip, which is good for Episodic Dvds or Full Dvds that you are going to burn

to a Dual Layer Disc.First step is on the drive you are ripping to, create two folders, #1: The initials of the movie that

you are ripping, in this case DMS3D3, #2: VIDEO_TS.You notice how in the second pic, I choose the rip mode & I choose the

target file for the rip, then click next & off you go on what hopefully is a Full Dvd rip to the destination that you chose.

When you have a successful rip, go into the target destination file, Edit / Select All / Edit / Move To A Folder & browse

to the VIDEO_TS folder that you created,(what I would suggest here is Drag & Drop the VIDEO_TS folder back into the

Destination folder, just in case you are not going to burn immediately), this is the folder you will browse to when you burn

with ImgBurn in Build Mode & change the Output to Device rather than Image File. When you are done & have checked for

playability, you can delete the folders & might I suggest defragging your drive, because you just got rid of a huge file.

Then you must have understood my posts wrong...

IIRC, you have not asked in this thread for help.

@SirroccoX
You can use Decrypter to burn, but the same programmer/author wrote ImgBurn, and ImgBurn is much improved over Decrypter.
