I am encountering the following problem when trying to make a copy of a DVD I own: when using CloneDVD I get the following message: "unexpected error. Please be sure that all the input files are available and that they represent a properly mastered DVD". When I use DVDshrink it says:" invalid DVD navigation structure" I have no idea what any of this means. Please translate for me and let me know what I need to do.

Is the DVD you have a recent release? Maybe this is some new sort of copy protection... Have updated AnyDVD lately?

Yes, I have AnyDVD 6.0.1.1 which is the most recently updated version they've put out up to now.

is this a commercial dvd title? what title, version, format, region, and country is it? (for example die hard, collector's edition, widescreen, Region 1, US)

does the original play correctly?

what program are you using to decrypt it? what version number is the decryption program? what version of clonedvd are you using?

basically the error is as it sounds...the programs seem to think that the files do not meet DVD-specs and are therefore having trouble interpreting the disc as a dvd-video. they aren't downloaded files ar ethey? this can be more common with either downloads or homemade dvds.

if you've authored your own dvd, what program did you use to author it?

if it is a legit commercial title, then that's a really strange error message to get, and we need a lot more info about your system. in addition to the programs and version numbers that you're using, please also identify the model and firmware of the optical drive you are reading from. also what are your system specs?

It's a commercial DVD, an exercise DVD from a martial artist named Matt Furey that can be purchased in any leading martial arts magazine or his website, mattfurey.com The name of the DVD is Combat Stretching. It plays perfectly normal on both my computer and my DVD player.

have you tried ripping with the anydvd ripper and then processing the resulting files through clonedvd2? it's possible than during the rip when anydvd runs FixVTS on the files that will shape them up into a real dvd.

my guess is that the production of this dvd was relatively inexpensive especially if the martial artist put it out himself. it's possible that manufacturing error caused the files to not represent a dvd that is fully compliant with dvd specification.

also, what version of clonedvd2 are you using? it's always important when referring to software to include version numbers (and don't say "latest" or "newest") to cut down on confusion

if ripping with the anydvd ripper does not produce a result that is workable in clonedvd2 or dvd shrink you can try to simply burn the files as a data dvd.

this will only work if it's a single layer dvd to begin with though. and the backup will have the same glitch as the original most likely.

ok.

here's the problem...there is no protection on this disc. that means it's either a very very very cheap production job or it's burned. is the bottom of the disc purple or silver?

looks like when this dude made his dvd he didn't really know what he was doing. your standalone player is reporting the "not NTSC" error because your standalone is confused as all hell and doesn't know what to do with this disc.

the videos on the disc are obviously NTSC as we can see from the anydvd info window.

basically it is not a video dvd in the strictest sense of the term. it doesn't meet dvd specifications. it's surprising that it still plays on your computer to be honest.

you can either take it back and tell them that the disc does not work correctly or you can resign yourself to only viewing it on your computer.

it is only a single layer disc so if you burn as data files to another disc then you will get a backup copy, but it will have the same problems as the original.

my only piece of advice is to try to run FixVTS on the files to see if it fixes them into video specs. you can either download FixVTS (freeware) or you can use the anydvd ripper to rip form the original disc to your hard drive. this automatically runs FixVTS on the files as it rips.

No need for CloneDVD or DVD Shrink... Original size fits more then well on a ordinary single DVD.
Just use latest CloneCD and you will have a working copy.

If the original doesn't play on your standalones, then you better ask for a new copy of this DVD.

Is anyDVD ripper a part of anyDVD, because I can't find any feature for ripping. Or is it a separate thing I have to buy from slysoft.com?

Right-click the little fox in the system tray, and you should see the Ripper option.

Actually, I bought this DVD from a guy on eBay, because Matt Furey's DVDs are very expensive if you get them from his website, but this guy must be making bootleg copies and selling them apparently, correct? Because every DVD I've bought in the past from Furey's website was copiable and both the copy and original played fine on both TVs and computers w/o problems.

definitely a bootleg then.

get your money back or just deal with palying it on your computer. unfortunately i don't think we can help you any further as discussion on bootlegs isn't really allowed here. even if it were, i've already told you everything i could possibly think of!

if it were me, my next step would be to complain to the ebay seller ESPECIALLY if it says anywhere on the auction that they are selling original dvds. try to get your money back.

basically if you pop something into anydvd and check out the info window and there's NO copy protection whatsoever there's something fishy going on.

i've come across a few independent dvds or music dvds from indie labels that are unprotected, but even those are rarer now. the only exception is porn...most porn isn't protected, but that's a whole other thread I'm sure.

good luck with however you decide to go about this

you're welcome. sorry we couldn't be of more help, and sorry you seem to have gotten ripped off

(although I'm not sure which is the bigger ripoff...a bootleg copy or the price on the official site!)
